There aren’t any, anymore. They’re few and far apart these days. Talk to the WDFW. Maybe they can explain why…

I was trying to be nice, Hunt. I didn’t want to throw them completely under the bus (but I really did)….

and over netting in the sound and the mouths of the rivers
When I was there, my friend took me to several places where the Indian people
had special rights to fish with nets. There were piles, some 3’ high, of dead salmon just rotting in the sun. What a waste. He said there was nothing that could be done.

Yep. The indigenous people have a whole different set of rules. If any. I’ve heard that they’re just taking the Roe. And the general public has to get permission to fish on tribal waters. But they can fish wherever they wish. Oh well. Whatcha gonna do…

sad but true a river I use to fish alot had a couple runs depleted as a result of netting across the river mouth. of course they want to blame development but everyone who fished the river knows when the nets went in fish did not make it up the rivers to spawn
Maybe there are those that say "damn rules" and I am in that camp often particularly in this state that I am now (CA). But I was impressed that there were generally polite fish and game rangers with iPad type units that recorded the fish that came in on the recreational boats, and apparently went to some data base that allowed the fishing to be adjusted almost daily - not sure how you'd find out what the changes were - but it was interesting to see it in action. Length, weight, type of fish, and location caught.

Yeah, they’ve been known to close fishing with just a few hours notice. You really have to keep up with the notices on a daily basis if your fishing for salmon or steelhead…

It's the completely anti Science position that there is a difference between wild Salmon and hatchery raised. A complete lie. Hatchery Salmon spawn in every major river system downstream of their hatcheries. All Hatchery stock came from wild stock. Keep 1 Salmon per day. No release of any Salmon. Plenty for everyone. You catch one, you keep it, no culling. No torture and release.

And then there are the “WILD” ones that got past the clippers in the hatchery. Been there, seen it. Just say’n…
