Lol I just got my flyer out of mailbox a little bit ago. Have ya guys used these from BPS. I just read that they are made in China also one of the questions was about if it would keep your head up out of water. The answer was you have to keep your head up so hope no one gets knocked out 😳

Whitey I've got two of them one I've had for many years. Replaced cartridge last yr. This thing has to be at least 15 yrs old. I put it is storage box without putting it in mesh bag. When I got home n pulled it out the handle snagged n it went off. I know the cartridge lasted that long. I have the 24

I was looking at a westMarine inflateable and saw the following disclaimer "not intended for weak or non-swimmers." While I know how to swim pretty good it made me wonder why this disclaimer? I thought the whole idea of a life jacket was to keep you safe if you got to tired to swim or maybe became effected by the cold water or something. If it is only good for strong swimmers that are doing ok in the water what is the point? Tell you the truth I can swim better with out a life jacket but wear them incase I am in a situation where I am to tired to keep treading water or swim.

If you look into you'll find at least the ones I looked out will only stay inflated for a period of time. Also read one article that said don't wear under a certain temp. Some say don't buy auto. I figure if I'm alone n for whatever reason can't pull handle I'm dead for sure👍

yea you are most likely right. but still why would anyone buy their life jacket if it is only for strong swimmers? Even strong swimmers if the water is cold or the waves choppy will at some point become tired and become not so strong any more at which point they are going to want a life jacket that keeps them afloat. By the way these were not cheap inflatables they were about $189 rated for off shore use. I was just about to buy a set when I saw the disclamer on the inside of the harness and decided I'll look for something else

Mustang. Test it within 6 years. The service period is 5 years if I am not mistaken. They are awesome and can be manually activated. Whenever they are activated ( manually or automatically ) you need to replace the 💊 pill and cartridge. I’m using slang but water melts the trigger or you break it if activated manually.

Mustang has a new one that is activated by hydrostatic pressure. It will set itself off if you are taken underwater. I will never spend 3 cents on one that will go off in the rain. Been there done that.

I thought the same thing but have never heard of a water activated PDF control device. You’d better not ride with me on the Columbia River with one of those on if the wind kicks up, which it does a bunch, or you’re gonna look like the pills bury dough boy until it deflates 20 minutes after it’s activated. The ones I use are a floatation device as soon as I put them on and still an active PDF 8 hours later when I take them off. Comfortable and I don’t need to worry about trying to activate it for it to work.

i would be interrested in what brand and what it looks like. mine migjt be comfortable and no need to inflate but on warm or hot summer days are to hot to wear without getting heat stroke

I have a PFD from bass pro shop the
AM/24 I wear it while fishing 🎣 SF Bay and lake Berryessa and can keep it on all day without having any restrictions they are about a $100.00 for each one

Good luck 👍 on what you are looking for and safe fishing

I bought the Mustang from bps at about $100 or less. First time it inflated it was laying on the seat next to me when it started raining.
It self inflated after a few minutes. Next 2 times it inflated I was wearing it in the rain. I've got more money in rearming kits t h an the vest cost. No more. I read about the hydrostatic inflating model from Mustang. I think I'm going back to my never fail life jacket. If I am wearing it there is no question about it working. Yea, it's hot but it works.

I went with the "Atmos 40" by Bluestorm Gear:
more buoyancy for less money, same comfort while wearing.

We fish Fort Peck Reservoir in MT, as well as other cold water lakes. We also and the Pacific Ocean off the Oregon Coast in 18- 21 ft rec boats, so the extra buoyancy seems like a positive - especially when wearing warm, bulky clothing.
