Wasnt sure if this was a bucket list type thing or fish that i can currently catch….not a lot of sailfish or marlin in Jersey. Just the fish i can catch , Stripers are the biggest and put up the best fight. ( so far anyway)

Only if it's the one in the River.

Black Sea Bass are the best tasting IMOA. Love catching them all but for food this is the best one.
That’s hard to argue with Gordon👍

Bonitos are my favorite to catch on light gear.

My favorite species has to be jumbo yellow perch. The world record is only about three pounds so I don’t need big gear. Lol
Fish for all species both fresh and salt but big crappies and yellow perch make me smile, not so much for their fight but as table fare. Just something about them I’m unable to articulate. Have caught stripers in the mid 40’s, smallies and LM in the 6#s but never killed them, I don’t feel bad about about taking the craps and perch.
I like to catch Fluke.. Bounce bottom with bait or bucktails and then fish on... Great tasting fish.

# 1 Stripers
# 2 Any fish that is tasty
I have not taken the opportunity to drop a line in the ocean, so I will have to agree with OJdidit & Fredfish, out of the 2 species I fish for the smallmouth rate at the top of my list
I'll round mine out. Any species of bass. SM LM Stripped. Mostly smallie around here. Some LM. 🎣🎣
