Fed the pheasants and birds this afternoon.

The temp. got up to a +10 this afternoon so I went out and fed the pheasants and birdies. I have two big feeders for the birds and I throw some shelled corn out about half of a doz. places under the pine trees for the pheasants. I feed them about every three days, and there will usually be some bird feed left, but not any corn. Everybody and his brother help themselfs to the corn. I have tried to take some pictures of the phesants and post them, but I can't get close enough. They run away, they do not fly much.

They probably can’t with all the fat from the seeds and corn 😂
I probably should have taken a picture of the “pile of doves” I had yesterday. I plowed the last snow close to the clothes post on which I hang my bird feeders. The snow pile was about 18” high and my local flock of sparrows just trash the feeders, sending seeds scattered everywhere. Just before dark there must have been 16-18 doves climbing over each other to clean up those spilled seeds.
Cozy for the birds. Breakfast of half frozen champions. They need more food during winter to stay warm. It’s awesome you feed them.
When at dinner with big group the corn always is a favorite especially for kids.

The cardinals and the doves usually come early and late, but now that it is so cold out they are there all of the time. I will go through 50#s of sunflower seeds and 50#s of shelled corn about every three weeks. Marion says those damn birds eat better than we do. I just chuckle and say I like my birdies.

Well the temp here this afternoon is 36 but it's supposed to be on a steady climb back into the 60's in the next couple of days. The backyard is covered in about two inches of water which is not unusual when we do get any rain of any reasonable quantity because the ground is all clay. Marilyn feeds the birds every day although they really aren't stressed here in the land of normally sunny and warm but they've come to rely on it because it's so easy. She didn't get out to fill the feeders today and they are sitting on the back fence all puffed up against the cold and looking terribly sad and miserable. I'll tell them what it's like in Minnesota and we'll see if that cheers them up. Oh who am I kidding? I ain't going out there in 36 degrees - I'm staying in here by the furnace with my hot tea and my Ugg boots on, two sweat shirts and my checkered fleece pants. They'll have to tough it out.

I miss not seeing those wild Pheasants love to hunt them the wild birds not the planted ones.
Where I l8ve use to have great Pheasants hunting but do to New farming techniques the birds are far and few between even on the Duck Refuges.
And the Fish and game don't seem to care?!!!
Thanks for the pictures.

Man, we used to have wild birds out the wazoo up until the late 70’s. Kinda disappeared over night, now all we’ve got are stocked birds for the price of a pheasant tag at $27.50. Still buy one each year to please the dogs and my palate.
The pheasants will live on, I like watching them. The deer however don't do as well.
