I looked them up. It’s a Ling relative.

Resembles a lingcod.
That's just one of their other names - they are called by about a half-dozen or so names in different areas of the country ! They are (as stated earlier)
the only freshwater member of the cod family, and are reputed to have
a similar taste/texture !

Member if Ling or cod ? The way I understand is they are of Ling. Lingcod is NOT a cod. They are a cod like fish.

haddock, hake or pollock,
you should like cusk as well !
(It's all in the family !)

They’re excellent. White meated fish. We have them in some of the northern lakes here in Idaho too but I haven’t been up there to try for any. Pretty limited season I think. Wide open in Wyoming. Most of the south western waters there have them.

I’d compare them to gray cod for sure. Just lacking the saltwater part.

My buddy in San Antonio forwarded this photo and info to me from another friend of his back in N.H. !
This is the new (N.H.) state record cusk - it was caught through the
ice at Lake Winnipesaukee on Thursday, Jan. 13th, 2022 ! It measured out to 35" and weighed
in at 12 lbs. - 8-3/4 oz. !
How does one fish cusk . Are they bottom feeders ? Certain rigging ?

Never fished for them, but they're usually caught by ice-fishermen,
and occasionally early-season folk
out for salmon or lake trout might
hook into one !
