My buddy in San Antonio forwarded this photo and info to me from another friend of his back in N.H. !

This is the new (N.H.) state record cusk - it was caught through the
ice at Lake Winnipesaukee on Thursday, Jan. 13th, 2022 ! It measured out to 35" and weighed
in at 12 lbs. - 8-3/4 oz. !

Burbot/freshwater cusk - the
only freshwater member of the
cod family - they are usually
restricted to the colder water
below the thermocline in lakes
and/or cold water rivers/streams !

That’s quite a pig Big A, love the contrast with the snow and the fish’s color. I too had no idea what a cusk was. Know for sure we don’t have them here.

They are supposed to be delicious and put up one heckuva fight.
That one looked like it was 35” of solid muscle.

We just caught a bunch of ling/burbot at Flaming Gorge in Wyoming. The biggest one was 36” but only 7 pounds so quite a bit skinnier. Lol
