IDIOTS DRIVING BOATS

I’ve had boats most of my adult life and have witnessed quite a few of these crazy stunts by folks out on the water. Oregon requires a 10 minute on line test to get a boater’s safety card. Anyone over 16 can take it and I have one as well as both of my boys. It’s a lifetime little card for $20.00 you are required to carry with you on the water operating a boat in Oregon but I’ve seen guys with them that shouldn’t be operating a boat. A captains license is required on the ocean or if you are a charter boat captain but anyone over 16 can get a boater’s safety card that allows you to operate a boat in Oregon.Other places I’ve lived only require a boat operator to be over 16 if it has a motor. They can’t drive the rig that pulls the boat without a driver’s license but they can hop in a vehicle that don’t have wheels and hit the water. Not shocking there’s so many idiots on the water.

I am all for a new regulation that prevents anyone under 70 owning a boat.
It will not necessarily make the water any safer, but it will make my fishing better. How many responses will I get that agree but change the age to younger or older?

Thanks Gordon. Often laughing at tragedy including your own, is a relief mechanism. The problem isn't you. People are just tire, angry and frustrated and often just stupid these days. You could give a group free ice cream cones and someone in the group would response with a negative comment. I personally watched several more similar u-tubes. Just smile and take it with a grain of salt. It was a very appropriate posting. And may even prevent another tragedy.

In Washington both are required but it doesn't stop people from having someone else take the boaters test for them,thats done online.

I enjoy doing that. Especially when the water is cold and they try not to get wet.

Done that while taking lunch breaks,amazing how many can't back up a trailer,my favorite was a guy who didnt lock his winch strap and dropped his 26'+ cabin cruiser on the ramp while pulling out.

Seems that same thing here!! Forty hp has so much more torque, that I let go the helm for maybe 2 seconds and the boat steered itself into the marsh grass. The old helm does not work with the high torque engines, called 'no feed', and works fine now. I do hope nobody gets offended by these.

In our high school days, my Brother and I spent a lot of summer Saturday afternoons watching the show at the boat ramp. It was time well spent!
