All of that sounds great but it still won’t stop fools from being fools and drunks from being drunks. Most boating accidents are caused by too much alcohol consumption. A friend I worked with was a deputy sheriff with our county marine division and he brought a lot of pictures of boat accidents to work to show me. Most all were alcohol involved. Some of them were fatalities.

The sights I've seen in the water are unbelievable. Some are too riskay to mention. And some were so dangerous I don't have words. The local game Warden wrote a guy to get a safe boater course and brother did he needed it. He had a thirteen foot john boat rated for a fifteen horse motor with a fourth horse motor on it. It had maybe a inch of free board with two people in it. I don't think the owner is capable of passing a safe boater course. Any one who puts 2 and 2/3 the amount of hose power a boat is rated for has a death wish.

For the last three years I have kayak fished! You know that kyacks are incredibly susceptable to the wakes caused by boaters. I now have a little 12 foot johnboat with a 9.9 hp Mercury. They too can get shoved around by boaters who can’t resist throwing down the hammer.

I get it, because I used to own a 20 foot bass boat with a 200 horse motor, but for whatever reason… Maybe just good common sense… I would always slow down when passing by other smaller fishing boats.

I think there is a huge gulf that lies between the kind consideration of others and rude indifference to others. It is seen when people are behind the wheel of a car as well as the helm of a boat. Some people are by nature kind and considerate and thoughtful of others. Other people could care less and give no thought to others, so their rude behavior can become dangerous.

At the very least, their poor behavior is annoying. I was nearly swamped at a boat ramp while trying to load my little boat back on my trailer, as a high horsepower bass boat decided he would start up and speed off at full throttle right in front of the ramp. My daughter was nearly injured as she tried to hang onto the boat, pitching in the waves, as I was backing the trailer into the water. That was rude… Thoughtless… Uncaring… And dangerous!!! It seems however, that these instances cannot be remedied. Some people are simply distasteful and and ugly and I’m not sure how to go about fixing that problem.

So, one of my solutions is to completely avoid the biggest lake in our area which enjoys a lot of pleasure boats and jet skis. I instead fish the waters that are only visited by fisherman. In this way, I stand a much better chance of having an enjoyable day on the water without incident. And that’s my two cents from BeaverTooth…

The rudeness you're seeing is the results of poor parenting and the me my generation. At boat ramps you run into some of the rudest people those that park in front of the ramp so no one else can use it. Those that can't park a boat trailer and truck between the lines. I've helped several people load and of load a boat. I've picked up trash as I dumped mine in a trash can not twenty feet away.
It doesn't cost you anything to be nice your self respect to be less than nice

I remember a t shirt I saw about 40 years ago that read “Don’t let your horsepower exceed your I.Q.”
I have tried to live by that proclamation!
So far, so good!

I have that t shirt
