What happened to you anyway? You used to seem like a middle of the road kind of person. Seems like FS is a bunch of Grumps and bullies anymore. It really isn’t what I remember when I joined.

So people can constantly shame the left but if anyone brings up factual statements about anything but bashing the left they are condemned?

It shows exactly what the c****e topic was about all over again. The majority on this site either bash the left or will not engage. It’s sad that only one sides opinions are acceptable on this American ( supposedly) site.

With all due respect to the others, I think this is an exceptionally appropriate time to post this, and I'll go out on a limb and say why:
Consider the grieving families and especially the Gold Star Moms trying to decide whether or not to place recently wrapped gifts under the tree for a lost son or daughter. Even if their loss occurred early in the year, it would be tough.
Fast forward a few years to face the healing gesture by the President, reopening all of their emotional pain. Jimmy Carter has demonstrated that he is a good man, and a great example of what a Christian can be.
But he blew this one, and badly. Accepting back those who abandoned their country and left the awful dirty work to others ? Bad policy, terrible precedent, and a slap in the face to all who served.
Personally , I have a world of respect for true consciencous objectors who did their time in jail, and those who served as medics or corpsmen and were exposed to becoming casualties themselves. Those who left and returned after the danger was over, I have nothing for them except contempt.
As always I welcome any criticism or insight that anyone feels the need to communicate to me.

As someone who served during the Vietnam conflict I'd like to address the original poster's question. Then I'll be quiet. I don't believe for a second that Jimmy Carter did not consider what you guys have been discussing before he made his decision to pardon all the draft dodgers. I remember real well how divided this country was over that war. More than enough hard feelings to go around on both sides. It was a mistake on the part of the politicians who got us involved deeper and deeper as it drug out. Over 50 thousand of our brothers and sisters lost their lives. For what? Jimmy Carter didn't betray them. Robert McNamara did when he sent them over there to fight and die in a lost cause. Which he admitted later he had known all along. Jimmy Carter was a career Naval Officer, an Annapolis graduate, who left the service to take over his family's business when his father died. He was and is an honorable man who made the decision that it was time for this country to heal its wounds. I think he made the right decision.
There have been presidents with no regard at all for the military. They haven't all been Democrats. A couple of them come easily to mind. I won't name either, but neither of them ever served. One left office with a new found respect for those who do serve. The other never understood why anyone would do that. Still doesn't.

And as far as being that middle of the road kind of guy, I haven't change there. If you were a republican and throwing out fact less accounts and lowering yourself to insults. I would call you out no matter your affiliation.

Wasn't that fun? I went into the Navy because I h**e flying. So I put in 21 years and I was stationed aboard 1 ship, a sub tender tied up to the pier in Point Loma California. Every where I ever went - and I went a lot - I flied. But I managed to get under way a few times, and I loved every minute of it.
And thank you for your service and thank you to your father and brothers and son. That's really cool.

Thank You all that served. This Democratic Household supports Military and we both always will. Our son is currently serving this Free Country. He will be missed on Saturday.
