I haven’t hooked a Bass in three weeks. Finally hooked into this 1.94 pound fish. Water was very clear. Black skirt spinner with a single chrome willow blade. I saw the bass dart out of the weeds about 15 feet away from the lure. I kept cranking and set the hook on contact. Came out of the water twice. Took me into some weeds. Good fighting fish. Bluegill were hitting worms on every cast. Hard to get bass to hit anything with all the food available. Only one bass, caught a dozen or more bluegill. This was a one pounder that took off some line when I set the hook.

Nice catch Jwid, glad you got into one anyway. Things should start picking up as the water cools off.

Great job Jwid, hate getting skunked,my worst yet was about a month and a half of no fish,Does it matter how big or small the fish is that you catch when you break your skunk, it’s always a nice one🎣

Buried the skunk and a couple of gills made a great lunch.

Thanks to all for the support.

Water is cooling off Fred.

I’m opening the valve and lowering the lake 10 feet on the 2nd of Oct. for weed control. Got to get some fish the next couple weeks. I’ll be missing the November thru March fishing.

Glad for your success, Jwid!... ¿Is that water entirely ON your property, or are you the owner of the "parcel" where the dam is located?... ¿OR?

I own the property next to the dam. 60 acre lake with 13 property owners on my side of the lake. Someone else was taking care of the lake issues. I volunteered and took over. Lake needs to be drained down about every three years to freeze out weed growth and allow us to maintain our individual shorelines. Wasn’t happening as it needed to so I’m the guy now. I’ll open the valve and it is up to Mother Nature to let it get down and freeze a couple of times this winter. In the spring a couple good rains over the 77 square miles of watershed into the creek will fill it. Lakes need maintenance. It is a 110 year old lake. Oldest manmade lake in Missouri. Trying to find a way to do some dredging and valve maintenance.

Google view of last time it was drained. Arrow points to my old dock.
