Who would buy a 600 HP motor to go fishing? Maybe, but I personally cannot imagine such. There are other ways to get to where one wishes to fish. Just Sayin....RJS

You should see the 45-50 ft center consoles RJ, they have 4 600s on the transom.

If I ever find a boatload of cash in my mailbox, or in a grocery bag on the back porch...and feel like squandering it, I would probably purchase 2 kayaks and put the rest into a high yield savings account that could earn a hefty 0.00001% in modern interest accrual! I am very content to pedal or paddle while fishing.

I should mention that I do have a small boat, but I like fishing from the kayak better....I think it feels a bit more on the stealthy side?!

That being said, I might also end up checking the used equipment market because there are probably a lot of really cool boats out there for a reasonable amount of greenbacks to be had if one has the patience to wait for a deal, or perhaps embark on a modest travel adventure to procure one away from your immediate locale.

I see the advertisement on the stage for the Mercury V12 600hp outboard motor and wonder just who among us will be able to part with a minimum of$77,000. A new bass boat anywhere between $55k and $75k. Plus a new tow vehicle at min $35k. I look at these figures and think I could buy a pretty nice house for that. Why do we submit to paying these prices and put up with the new and better always costing much more?

Just askin

My son gave me my boat and the truck I pull it with was given to me as a bonus as well. I catch just as many fish as those who spend $150,000.00 on their set up. Crazy is as crazy does.

You have been told which guys put huge lift kits and 45" tires on a full size truck engineered just fine to run 33" or maybe 35" at max OD tires. A boat like that would seem the same but worse. Probably a grand son of the guy that invented ruining perfectly engineered 4x4 trucks. Therefore he is 3 generations into the genetic problem of getting something flashy or huge to make up for other little things he has NO control over.

Some guys by sports cars. Some guys buy aircraft. Some guys buy bass boats. If you have the ability to pursue your hobby , I say go for it. There was a post similar to this one recently. It had something to do with adding up costs. I’ve had several boats over the years, and I have never bought brand new boat. I just can’t see paying that kind of money. The only watercraft I’ve ever bought new was my kayak.....My 2cents.

Suits me fine, and as for the fish, they taste the same no matter what price the craft.

That’s right, Plum. The boat don’t catch the fish. But that 600 horse V 12 sure would look nice on the back of your Kayak…😜🐟on

I remember in my high school days . . . A bunch of us were on a sandy beach on the Sacramento river, when a boat went by with a newly introduced outboard motor - the Mercury 100 HP "Tower of power". We all stood there with our mouths open, flabbergasted! "Who in his right mind is going to bolt 100 horsepower onto the back of a boat?? That's crazy, man!"

How times have changed!

Let me rephrase this another way. Why do we not push our fishing equipment suppliers to find ways to build in the price range we can afford. Which market segment is larger the 40-125hp or the 350-600hp? It seems to me from the lifelong salesman perspective the outboard and boat builders are hunting elephants occasionally having a feast rather than rabbits and eating every day!
