Unless your using a spinner or something else which would twist your line I would recommend no swivel and straight attachment. Less hardware the better.

In saltwater, I use Sampo ball bearing swivels (with or without the snap) for many of my rigs. Between the tidal currents, trolling and using lures such as spoons that twist, line can get messed up in a hurry. Tie the ball bearing swivel to you main line and then time a fairly short leader that you can attach to your lure, hook or rig. Sampo makes good stuff and they know it. But they are worth every penny.

Thanks, Fred. The 25 lb. clips are tiny and I struggled with attaching a hook. Going to try the 50 lb, which is still pretty small - but easier to work with. Leader is 12lb.

Listen to Fredfish, I was going to say the same thing but he beat me to it. Fred in 100 % ON

Thanks, More. I’m wondering if I should tie a swivel to the leader end and then attach the clip to it, so the action is similar to that of the barrel swivel. 😁

That's what I do. Clips much easier to use than snaps, for me. Barrel swivel to prevent line twist.

I like ball bearing swivels with two eyes, one on each end. Tie the eye closest to the wide end of the swivel to your braided line, and you leader to the other eye. At the end of your leader, tie on your favorite power clip, and attach your lure.

The ball bearing swivel will eliminate line twist, The power clip will allow you to quickly change lures, from swim pates, to spinners, to spoons, Kast Masters, even tube baits.

I’ve always used the barrel swivels shown on the right, but they’ve bent and opened up on me a couple of times lately. Thought I’d try these power clips (I have 25 and 50 lb sizes) - should I attach them to a swivel or just use as is? Thanks for your help!

I don't use a a swivel when l'm throw crankbaits or even when using jigs or worming.
The only time I use a swivel is when l'm trolling.
Good fishing and safe times on the water

I tie the power clips directly to the bait. I Use them interchangeably.

Betts, Gordon had you zeroed in if you eat snaps. I run that style on my Salmon rigs, never had a problem

Thanks again for your advice, everyone. Going with power clip tied to leader and if the bait calls for adding a swivel (it doesn’t, at this point), you’ve given me a couple of good options. Fish on! 🎣🎣🎣

Eagle Claw, these days, are made in China; even so, get a better grade of swivels. That's what I do.
