Power clips vs. barrel swivel?

I’ve always used the barrel swivels shown on the right, but they’ve bent and opened up on me a couple of times lately. Thought I’d try these power clips (I have 25 and 50 lb sizes) - should I attach them to a swivel or just use as is? Thanks for your help!

Hello Betts. Typically people tie to one end and then clip the lure to the other end. If that doesn’t make sense let me know and I will try to come up with a better way to explain it. Best of luck! :)

Thanks, More. I’m wondering if I should tie a swivel to the leader end and then attach the clip to it, so the action is similar to that of the barrel swivel. 😁

My bet is if those EC swivels opened and bent they were not closed properly.

I either tie it to the main line or make a leader with a barrel swivel on one end and the clip on the other. Then you’ll still get the action if you want

Ah I see what you mean there is no reason you couldn’t. I personally would tie directly to the clip. My reasoning behind this is I like to get away with as little tackle as possible. I would try it both ways and see which one gives you the best action and feel. :)

I despise the snap swivels
The clips work pretty good for crankbaits and stuff you want to quick change.
Only had one open up one time and cost me a fish

The snap swivels are junk and prone to fail , catch weeds , kill lure action etc.
I just don’t like em at all

Barrel swivel to connect the leader. Clip on the other end for quick change outs. Wooop!

Hmm! I’m using braid w/ 3-4 ft. leader. Would I be tying the swivel to the braid, then to the fluoro, then attaching the clip? I hope I’m describing that in a way that isn’t too confusing. Thank you!

Betts, the only time a swivel is needed, is when you throw spinner type lures, like a Mepps, or Rooster Tails. If you need to use one for those purposes, shorten your leader, because reeling the barrel swivel into the guides on the rod will definitely damage them. If you don't use that type of lure, tie your leader on to the mainline, and tie the clip on the end. Use the smallest size clip you can, as long as its rated for at least the breaking strength of your line/leader.

Thanks, Fred. The 25 lb. clips are tiny and I struggled with attaching a hook. Going to try the 50 lb, which is still pretty small - but easier to work with. Leader is 12lb.

Betts , Those swivels in you picture are a waste to me. Try the Coast lock ones. That's all I use.

I agree with Fred. Some of the swivel snaps are NOT junk and will help keep your line from twisting when using in-line spinners. I use them and they work well for me.

The ones in Gordon’s pic are very good. IMO
