Exactly right ! The taste of bear
meat is greatly affected by its'
diet ! A bear that feeds
predominantly on roots, fruit
(apples), berries and small
mammals will be fairly edible -
the bear who's been scavenging
and/or eating at the local dump ?
Not so much !

Diet has a major influence on taste,
as well as properly gutting, cooling and handling of the meat
immediately following the kill ! All
are vital to the quality of the meat !

There is a bear festival in McCleary, Wash. Bear stew is a main attraction.

Nah! There are precious few bears in Texas, and I would be afraid they would be so full of B.S. the skins would not be 1/2 as big as say, California, where they portray a bear on their state flag! Now, unless they are faking it, those would be the kind of bears I would want, or maybe grizzly bears. Just Sayin...RJS

Mr Samples, there was a time in our History(California) when there was an abundant population of Grizzly Bears here, but after the gold rush fever hit the the out of staters went nuts, to where they just eliminated them, very sad, but listen I do have 2 Tatanka hides I would sell you cheap because I enjoy your stories sir,!,,,,,

I've actually heard of a sighting in North East Cali.

Not much I dislike more than grizzlies, other than wolves. They moved both into my neighborhood. Deer and Elk population dropped considerably. I hear deer screaming for their life, while being pulled down by wolves.

Only stew ? Do they also make
chili with it ? That might make
it more palatable !
