Well if it comes to that you guys probably get some good eats!! Sweet meat they should be full of berries by now

There are no berries. Drought caused most of the berries to fail. You are the only person I ever heard call bear meat good. Have you actually eaten it? I have and it was awful. I know a lot of people that have eaten it and no one liked it.

My back yard is a community forest. I was hiking with my two dogs, and as I came back to the house, I saw a black bear in the large bush eating berry’s. On the other side of the bush, maybe 20 yards is a doe. The dogs see the doe and want to chase her. There not seeing the bear. I quietly tried to keep them from chasing the deer. Finally they take off. The bear comes out of the bush one way, the deer takes off and both dogs are now trying to climb up my leg. One is a 65# black lab the other a 40# springer.

Ah yes guys & gals...just got on here to check weather before heading to the lake for fishing...sorry about that spelling error on bird suet last night! I'm usually more careful! Takes on a whole new meaning. The only possible "suit block" I can think of would have been what David Byrne (music group Talking Heads) was wearing during one of their concert performances many years ago!

Not sure if this link will work...but helps explain the big suit thing!

Here ya go RJ. It fits in a wire basket you can hang up for birds. Bears luv them also. It a greasy cake with seed n flavoring. Our daughter had to take hers along with a bird feeder. She had 2 feeders the bear took one with him. πŸ‘πŸ‘

Let me see, I would like to have bear skins cover all of my den, wall to wall. How many square feet does one average bear skin cover? If the den was 18 x 24 that would equL 432 SQ FT. Just sayin...RJS

Black bear pelts average about
5 to 6 ft. sq., a grizzly about 8 ft.
sq., and a Kodiak from 9 to 11 ft.
sq. (take length from tip of snout
to tip of tail, add distance between outstretched forepaws, then divide
by two) ! That said, there was a black bear shot in Pennsylvania some years ago that far exceeded normal black bear dimensions- at 879 lbs., it was HUGE for a black bear ! That black bear and a couple of Kodiak pelts should cover your walls for you !

Nah! There are precious few bears in Texas, and I would be afraid they would be so full of B.S. the skins would not be 1/2 as big as say, California, where they portray a bear on their state flag! Now, unless they are faking it, those would be the kind of bears I would want, or maybe grizzly bears. Just Sayin...RJS

A few years old but here are two pics of Calif bears in my back yard caught on the game cam. They are a pain in the butt, had to rebuilt and get more chickens more than once. Learn real fast to put up food items. I think they will fill that den of yours

It all depends what they are eating and how you cook them. Like deer meat I have had good and bad, same thing for the bear

Exactly right ! The taste of bear
meat is greatly affected by its'
diet ! A bear that feeds
predominantly on roots, fruit
(apples), berries and small
mammals will be fairly edible -
the bear who's been scavenging
and/or eating at the local dump ?
Not so much !

Diet has a major influence on taste,
as well as properly gutting, cooling and handling of the meat
immediately following the kill ! All
are vital to the quality of the meat !
