I am constantly amazed by the things people do. This is a photo I took yesterday at Lake of the Woods in Ontario. Another person and I chased this bear away. Never leave coolers and food for the bears to get into. It is usually a death sentence for the bear and it is not the bear’s fault!

Good reminder to all of us. I have a hunch that bear excelled in reading class as a cub, saw that Yeti brand of cooler, and said..."bear proof huh...we'll see about that!"

If any of those rods have any scent of bait on them you might see a bear running through the woods with a hook in its mouth dragging a rod. Not a good idea leaving them out either.

The bear did get into a bucket of musky baits. None were lost, but bucket was broken and baits were spread out on the lawn. The owner is lucky the bear didn’t hit up the rods. That would have been expensive. The bucket was behind the cabin. He also left the tailgate of his truck open and the topper window open. The stuff is still sitting there unprotected. Someone picked up the lures so they are no longer a threat to the bear. If the bears returns, I may just let it have his way with fishing rods.

The classic everything revolves around me human entitlement.. hopefully people can get to a place where we recognize that this rock is a place for every being and be able to see the impact that we have on other creatures whose grounds we have encroached on? I’m sure they got along just fine before we came around. Do your part to be a good steward to the land and it’s resources were not the only ones here.

Let me see, I would like to have bear skins cover all of my den, wall to wall. How many square feet does one average bear skin cover? If the den was 18 x 24 that would equL 432 SQ FT. Just sayin...RJS

Saw earlier a woman was attacked by a bear while planting trees, was airlifted to hospital and didn't survive

Nah! There are precious few bears in Texas, and I would be afraid they would be so full of B.S. the skins would not be 1/2 as big as say, California, where they portray a bear on their state flag! Now, unless they are faking it, those would be the kind of bears I would want, or maybe grizzly bears. Just Sayin...RJS

Over the years, I suspect that many of us have spent time in "bear country", and that can mean a lot of different places. From our "training" and respect for wildlife, I also believe that we know the do's and don'ts of spending time in "their" backyards.

Here is a funny case of the bear coming into "my" backyard a few seasons ago! One day my son was visiting us and while we were out on an errand and returned home he said..."you're never going to believe this, but a bear came in and raided your suit block!" We do live in a small rural subdivision, but have a vast area behind us that is wild and forested. I set up a trail cam real quick, and sure enough, it came back for seconds in a short while! Once I had a few snapshots, I promptly took down our suit block for the rest of Summer...and advised our other neighbors to do the same ASAP! Cute little guy...but we did not want any harm to come to it in any way. Never heard tale of it being spotted again...so hopefully it was just passing thru!

"good afternoon Mr. Bear! Just passing thru I hope!"

Just a note. The bear is back and threatened some people at the BBQ. It isn’t looking good for the bear.
