Back from Colebrook River Lake on the Massachusetts border. Lake level lower than I expected, about 10'-12' below full pool. Wind was blowing right down the chute most of the day, once again making boat positioning tough. Hooked 11 little Smallmouth, 8 in the boat and 3 professional release,LOL all a pound or less. Somewhat disappointing, but for a first time,a learning experience.
I did accomplish one goal. I caught Bass ON Route 8! That's a state highway that runs from Bridgeport Ct, north thru Massachusetts. Well technically it was "Old Rt.8", which was relocated when the lake was built, but on Rt 8 none the less.

Nice going on those smallmouth bass! Plenty in numbers is as good as having a few whoppers in the bunch. Very interesting about that lake being built right in the path of an old highway! Not being familiar with that area, I would not want to be exploring that old route late at night!

It seems like a large number of water bodies are at low levels all across the US this season...or perhaps the process has been a slow one over several years....

The old Rt 8 is blocked off until they lower the lake enough that you can safely drive on it Fishyaker. On our end it starts at the ramp parking lot, and on the Massachusetts end it joins the new 8 at a gated entrance. This is a Corps of Engineers lake, and they adjust the level to keep the Farmington River flowing steady. It's one of our best Trout rivers.
The 2 spots I posted pictures of the road, are both ends of a hill on the old road. Today there's a cove on either side, and I caught at least 1 or 2 fish on each side.

Hi Fred, small fish better than no fish. And obviously you're good enough to deal with the wind. It's been a frustrating year so far, hopefully it will get better. I didn't get out this week. Planning on going Monday with my grandson and maybe a party boat Friday with my grandson.

Thanks YB. Only getting to fish 1or 2 days a week, unless I take time off from work, really forces me to attempt it in questionable conditions. The useless weather people leave out things like wind until the last minute. Like todays boating and Marine forecast, beautiful day blahblahblah and 15-25 knot wind out of the Southwest. WHAAAT? As I'm sure you remember from your days on the Sound, that means big seas on our side of the pond. I'm sure it was a rough one out there today. NOT my idea of a beautiful day.
Good luck with your GS, and have a great week! Keep a weather eye out for Friday.

Hi Fred . one or 2 days a wk. Dang I've only been out 5 time so far. I was happy to catch one. Lucky i got him as dirty as the water was. I need to get one of those hard knock lures. The choppo made noise n the wake bait was loud but no topwater bite. Next time friend MAYBE šŸ‘šŸ‘šŸŽ£šŸŽ£ Nice job brother.

Hey Fred, still a better day than at work. You got 11 fish in tough conditions , Iā€™d call it quite a successful outing.

That's the Corps for you Gordon. The best thing about the fluctuations in level is no traditional weeds, mainly scrub brush on the shoreline.

Hey Grizz, I haven't had much luck with topwater myself this year, but you gotta keep trying. They'll come around sooner or later. Thanks brother. You and Bug have a pleasant evening.

Thanks BK, yes indeed is. It's gonna take a few more exploratory trips to figure where the big fish hang out at various water levels.
