Grizzly have you ever used permethrin? You can get it at Walmart. Get the big bottle. Itโ€™s over by the mosquito spray. Spray it on your clothes, socks and boots and let it dry before putting them on. Itโ€™s good for 5-6 washes and definitely keeps the ticks off.

What's it smell like?

Grizzly I did pull that one off. When the big 10 pointer looked the other way I hung up the antlers on my right side and grabbed my bow on my left. It caught some movement and went behind a bunch of brush but I could see his legs. It stayed there for 10 minutes then headed back the way it came in. A grunt and snort wheeze brought it back behind that same spot. It stayed there for 30 minutes then a repeat of leaving and calling him back to the same spot again. A few minutes later it starts moving towards my kill zone. I go to full draw and he stops and I have to let down. As soon as I do it starts to move, I go back to full draw, the buck is now at 20 yards. I softly grunt and stop the buck and let the arrow fly and it jumps the string. A complete miss! Man that was one exciting 45-50 minutes! 4 days later I rattle an 8 pointer in on a dead run and it stops behind that same bunch of brush. It stays there for a couple of minutes then moves into the same spot that the 10 pointer was and my arrow zips through it, a perfect double lunger.

Hi Rut I haven't gone the last couple yrs. I also had to go to a crossbow. That was a tough switch but necessary. I enjoyed bow n black powder the most. 1st yr with CB I missed a buck at 60yds. Shot right under him. Later i reali9 why i missed. I knew i could hit the bull at 60. Then it hit me i use 10yd pin. Wasn't use to a scope with muti lines. It is a rush when they get close enough to touch. I enjoyed the hunt the most . Gave thanks for any harvest. CWD has become a problem in the region. Keep doing what keeps you young ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘

Kandy after it dries there is no smell that I can smell. I could hunt with it on my clothes without any problems. Donโ€™t need to retreat for 5-6 washed.

Thanks, Rut. Going to visit nephew in Virginia and he says the ticks just fall out of trees around his house. I have a "thing" about ticks. Long story.

I've been following the ingenuity of your recent bait concepts... "congratulations" on the pay off with your catch! Pretty cool and resourceful! At this rate, you will be enjoying home made fish dinners whenever you choose all year long from your fresh caught and stored freezer supply! Well done!

Grizzly both myself and grandson both have 25-06 rifles but canโ€™t find any ammo for them. I have a Ruger M77 with 26โ€ barrel and grandson has a Savage Axis. We shoot Remington Core-Loct 100 grain bullets and them little bullets do some serious damage. My closest shot with mine 25โ€™, my furthest was 323 yards. My grandsons first deer he shot was a huge doe at 350 yards, he was 10. It was a little back but got liver n lung. He shot it off a Bog Pod tripod. You will like that gun and the bullets are flat shooting too.

Grizzly do you still bow hunt? I still bow hunt but switch to a crossbow last year. Iโ€™ll be 73 this year and still got that deep seeded need for that adrenaline rush you can only get when you get a buck or doe in front of ya or rattle one in on a dead run! Then wonder how your going to get rid of the antlers and grab your bow when the buck is 12 yards in front of ya, stopped and looking for a fight. Itโ€™s hard to impossible to beat an adrenaline rush like that!

Rut.... everything you say about the adrenaline rush is spot on. But, replace that deer with an elk and it's times 10!

Gmorn Rutin. I also have the savage axis camo with 3ร—9 weaver scope. Nit a bad deal for $10. Technically $140. I bought a $10 ticket for 14 yrs. Still a good deal. I went to gun shop to get it. Told the guy i needed ammo. He asks what i wanted. I said you tell me I've never shot a 25/06. He gave me a box of hornady 117gr. They come outa that girl nice. Should have stocked up then. Can't find ammo here either. I went to bass pro couple months ago all they had was a couple of boxes shot shells. The area i hunted close to home was seriously clear cut a couple yrs ago. It's starting to fill in now. Hoping deer will move back in. ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘

Steve Iโ€™ve never been elk hunting and it would have to be x10. Them are big critters and getting close to them would definitely put your heart in your throat.

Sure glad the crossbow works for you. I got a Washington disability crossbow license, but for me, it just wasn't the same. The crossbow has been hanging on the wall the last few years. The deer are now safe from me.

Experimented with a toad I caught for use as bait. 4# channel cat was caught on a 1/2 toad under a slipcork 12' deep. The toad was extremely durable having been pulled through bull rushes twice before being eaten by the cat and was still solid on the hook when removed from the catfish. Guts were still inside.
2 blue cats caught on cut shad.

Great job hooker! Congrats on your success and ingenuity! Take care
