73 years old, been fishing since I was a toddler, and I'm still learning. I normally use that set up in small streams with crystal clear water and if you catch a 12 inch trout it's enormous. Why'd I tie on that Silver Minnow? Seemed like a good idea at the time. Years ago I used those silver "spoons" to catch pike. I'd never tried one for trout, but I figured why not? Well that was a studly fish that took it, and now due to my choice of 2 pound line, he is swimming around with it hooked in his jaw. Maybe. It was barbless.

Spirit, I’m still learning as well. I believe a Smart Man always does if he allows it. I believe I’m with Saw on this one of line poundage. I used to use 4# on my old FlyRod, but lost too many fish in the mountain creeks so I went to 6# and that seemed to stop most of the losses. Till this day I don’t use any under 6# on Any of my rods, trout, crappie, ect. Since I have changed most of my day to day rods/reels over to Braid I use 8# leader w/10#braid for SM & 12# leader w/20#braid for LM. Most of that is just because of the rocks and trees we have been dragging the fish through or out of, but it seems to work. I also believe your big fish will have that barbless hook out of its mouth by dinner time. Thanks for the pics, those are some pretty waters.
