Hey you guys and gals. I'm gonna put some bigger line on that Nasci reel. I want to stick with fluoro. What do you all recommend? What's a real good fluoro?

That Nasci would be great with some 10# or 12# power pro braid with a fluoro leader. I like the Stren fluoro for my leader material.

That's pretty much what I've got on all the rest of my trout rods. Just wanted to try one with straight fluoro see what that's like.

That makes sense. I’ve never tried that either. Let us know what you think after using it a bit.

Well I really liked the 2 pound on it for small ones. But that big one that broke me off last week got me to thinkin maybe I should go larger? So I'm probably gonna go 8 or 10, i's just lookin to see what brand y'all like and if anyone had ever tried any of that "invisible" braid to see what they thought of it. I tried some Berkley Crystal Fireline (years ago) and I was not impressed. Have there been improvements? That spider wire I mentioned is supposed to be "nearly" invisible. Those trout up there at Martis Creek are totally wild, very wary, easily spooked and I'm quite sure very line shy. That's just how wild trout are.

I’d say go to a bait or fishing store and ask, but I think people are partial to what they use and one person could love one brand, but the next guy will tell you that brand is total crap. I’d probably just pick one that wasn’t the cheapest, looked and felt okay and give it a try. If you don’t like it, you can always just take it off and have it for leader material. Hey, it’s only money, time and hopefully no more lost fish, right?

Going thru my collection and found a 150 yd spool of Maxima fluoro. 6 pound test. Funny, I don't remember buying that. Maxima is good mono. Anyone ever tried the fluoro? Will I be the first one on here? So how much 6 lb will a 1000 size Nasci hold? I'll let you all know.

Around 120 yards or so. Perfect.

I've found that the fishing store people around here know even less than I do and I'm obviously not an expert when it comes to fishing lines. I just know what I like thru trial and error. I start asking the guy at the store about fluorocarbon vs braid and he gives me a blank stare with his mouth gaping open and his tongue hanging out. Then you got the ones who are obviously blowing smoke up my ass trying to sell me something. Can't put a whole lot of trust in those people. That's why I like this site. Honest informed opinions, no b.s. usually.

I agree. There are a lot of great people who love fishing and are very open to sharing their knowledge on here.
I actually laughed out loud on your description of the help at your local fishing store. You expect that at the chain stores, but the local fishing stores are supposed to have people that actually fish. We’ve got a really good store here in town with people that fish a lot and are quite helpful and knowledgeable.

Maybe I'm going to the wrong stores. We don't have a "fishing" store or bait shop in Lincoln, just a Big 5. Closest sporting goods store would be Sportsman's Warehouse. There's a Bass Pro Shops and a Walmart. I buy most of what I want online from whoever has the best price and delivery fees. Amazon mostly - I've got Prime, so free shipping on most stuff. Oh we have a Dick's but I don't go in there. They don't want people like me in there. They stopped selling guns and ammo and fishing gear about 2 or 3 years ago and I got no reason to go in there - I don't play baseball or tennis anymore.

That makes sense. The kid at Big 5 probably played a few soccer games and got stuck in the fishing department. Here in Utah, you’ve got a pretty good chance that there are people in the fishing department at Sportsman’s Warehouse or Cabella’s that actually fish. I think the people at the one dedicated fishing store fairly close to my house are required to fish on their days off, or get paid to fish a day or two a week.

Right? I seem to always get the jobs that leave no time for fishing!

Followed a Sheriff vehicle towing two of their jet ski's. I asked my carpool buddy, does that count as having a job? Do you think they go where they are needed or do they choose their destination based on how many bikinis are on the water?
