My daughter tossed her worthless husband out after he choked her to the point of unconsciousness in front of her twin 10 year olds. She lost her job because of him showing up at her work with a gun and threatening to k**l her and all the people she worked with. She found another job making less money, and she's trying hard to make it on her own. She does not bring home 8 or 9 hundred dollars a week. Do y'all think she should quit her job and start collecting that 900 dollars a week from the gummint and stay home and take care of her girls. Or hang in there? Personally I think her employer should be savvy enough to see what a great employee he has and pay her a decent wage, but that's not very likely. So what say you all?

I say stay home and collect the money. What this free money program has done is expose the huge wage disparity in this country. With the high cost of homes, cars, and rent, $15 an hr is barely above the poverty line

If she quits her current job, would she still be able to even collect unemployment? I have never been for having the government support those who are able to support themselves, but her former employer that let her go should mayhaps be responsible for paying her unemployment. How long did she
work there? Does she like her current job? What is her chance for advancement in the near future?
Sounds like SIL needs an attitude adjustment.....

The media has struck again. The pipe line going to the north east is shut down and our media has the south out of gas. This is a gas tank farm about a mile from our liquor store. Only shortage is not enough pumps to fill the trucks. This is at Buckeye Oil Co. On Virginia Ave. North Charleston.

This is as f**e a price raise as the one in the 70's. Driven by Dumb IT security and the Media.
1) All of the software "Should" have been on it's own "closed" Server.
2) Father, Son, Grandfather backups then taken off line on a staggered time line. 3 copies each, A B C on different time frames.
But they are too Lazy and Dumb to do that, "Oh, it costs too much."
So how much has it cost them so far?
Oh and at least one set of the Back ups needs to be "Off Site". If there is a fire ect., then they buy new equipment, rent a new location and load the backups. Tada, back in business, max loss one to 2 days.
I did on site repair back in the days and saw Off Site Backups save more businesses than you would believe.
Hard Drives are really cheap now days compairied to being shut down for days-weeks(?) and loosing business.
Ransom Ware Attacks have been out there for years. Why have they NOT had a business plan for them?
The Cloud? Dream on. If they backup'd up after the ransom attack the data is messed up there also.
They don't teach software students to believe that hardware failure and fires can occur and mess up the system, let alone Software attacks. Sorry to rant. Stupid just makes me mad when it also effects me and mine.
I could tell you stories about the "Great Gas Shortage" back in the 70's that the oil companies got away with.
Later.

Same here, went to Walmart earlier and gas stations say they only have higher octane fuel, plenty of panic buying as well as prices up by 20c/gl in a couple of days.

Well, she's not. She's trying and doing her best to make a go of it on her own. She makes about $22 an hour. Last I checked that's just under 900 dollars a week, before taxes. Her rent is 1600 a month for a 2 bedroom apartment in a decent neighborhood where she and her kids are safe. That's two week's pay. A car payment and insurance. All the other household expenses. Ain't much left over. Fifteen dollars an hour? She couldn't do it. Who could? Takes two people working full time to make it on that amount.

First, I admire your daughter for h*****g in there and working. If her husband/ex-husband, is the father of those girls, she absolutely has to get a child support order against him. Even if he doesn't pay. She has to pursue it and get her local child support agency involved. Not for her, for the kids. If he doesn't pay, put him in jail on work release with an automatic withdrawl for support. I don't know your daughter's bills but the cost basic living in California is crazy compared to other parts of the country. No doubt she is struggling. Not an easy situation but she does have some recourse if she pursues it.

Absolutely right Gordon. The media is good at creating hysteria. My wife was reading about it last night and told me last night and again this morning to top off the tanks. Do you think the price of gas might go up?!! Look what just happened to lumber. Just sayin...

Our local Chevron owner said “be prepared to pay over $5.00/gallon by August”. Not sure where he got his info but I heard it straight from him.

Maybe we should report on a jobs shortage to get some of these people to work rather that sitting home getting a check. My youngest had 2 people fight over her yesterday for her to work for them. One in peoples homes the other in nursing homes. They said they cant get people to show up.

My wife and I just returned from a trip to Wyoming. There were “now hiring” and “help wanted” signs for 750 miles. Nobody wants to work if they can make more by not working. I know a guy back there that’s getting $1600.00/week on unemployment and they just extended it for another 6 weeks. He said it’s crazy to work for $900.00/week if they’re gonna pay me $1600.00 to stay home. We couldn’t believe it. After they zap my social security check for Medicare I get around $1000.00/month before taxes. Then I have to report added income so they can take some of it back. Kind of a messed up program if ya ask me.

How can you hire people for $12-$15 per hour when our government gives them $800-900 a week unemployment for sitting home saying they are looking for a job. Are those running OUR country really that ignorant

It’s not ignorance. It’s intentional.

There are a lot of tax deductions and credits that I think are wrong and would rather have just a modified flat tax but as long as the government is going to offer them I would sure take them. So I'd say while I think the 900 a week is wrong and we will all pay the price with inflation and taxes in the not so far future if the government is going to pay the same as working and she can stay home for her kids I'd say go for it. The only way the employment picture will get better will be if the government gets out of the business of paying people not to work. that is as bad as paying farmers not to grow crops to keep the price up. But again I'd take advantage of both if it were the best thing for my family. May not like the game that is being played but you got to play it by the rules that they set up.
