You're only as old as you feel. If You think you can handle a kayak, go for it!

Well I'm almost 68 and I've been out with Edude a few times in his Hobies. I've managed to pedal bout 7 miles on a couple of the trips and still not be too bad at the end of the day. However, that is still a long ways from80. I HOPE I will still be able to do it when I'm that age. All I CAN say is don't overdo it.
When we went we helped each other load and unload the yaks from the truck and the water.
If you have someone you can go with that can help then I would say give it a try. I wouldn't advise you to try it alone though. Let us know what you decide and how it goes. Good luck.

Whether you're out there hiking, camping, hunting, fishing, swimming, kayaking, whatever - the buddy system is (and has always been) the best way to go, both for safety and enjoyment !
Having someone with you makes light work of chores, allows you
to share experiences, and gives
you a back-up in tight, difficult or dangerous situations !

Whether we like it or not, age is
a problem when it robs you of mobility and/or agility due to
pain or other medical reasons;
it also may affect the number
and frequency of 'pit stops' one may need to make in the course
of your activity !

For me, those are just some of
the reasons I would avoid a
kayak and opt for a canoe or
jon-boat instead; easier/safer to get in/out of, more space and
just a little more stable for
fishing ! Also, another good
reason for using the 'buddy system' !

I just turned 80 and sold my 2012 Bass Tracker Pro 165 2 years ago . I only used it maybe 5 times then I had major back surgery. It took me awhile before I was able to try and take it fishing again, believe me it wasn't easy. I tried again about 4 more times and on that 4th,time I was on a lake where only electric trolling motors were allowed, as I was coming in to run up on the trailer I forgot to raise the trolling motor an I ran into the back of the trailer frame and wound up with the shaft of the trolling motor on the inside of the trailer frame. Now here I am just my wife an myself at the launch area, and she years older than me and of little help. Well after some time later I managed to get the boat on the trailer and get it home into the garage were it sat until I sold it while holding back my tears. Well lets get back to my subject "how old is to old?" I've been thinking about getting a kayak ! I'd like to see how many yea's or nay's I get,-----Thanks for putting up with my tale.

I am 76 and have some difficulties as well. I've solved mine. I have a 12' yak that I couldn't load and unload by my self so I got a dolley. To stiff to get out of the yak after 2 or 3 hours so I got floats for both sides. Was tired after rowing for an hour so I got a battery operated drill prop. So my problems all solved. To old? As long as I've got the energy and desire I'll be fishing.

My brother is 80 and I am 72. We fish together often, either in his Lund Pro-V or my 14 foot jon boat. We enjoy each other's company and fish for everything from crappies to muskies. Age is just a number. If the day comes where we can't get in the boat, I'm sure we will fish from shore or piers. I also have an 11 year old grandson that loves to fish and keeps me hopping.

Salt Strong has a video on getting back in a capsized yak makes it look easy. Me I just don't like the idea of sitting with my legs straight out for 6 hours. I belong to a fishing club and we always have someone who is going out.
The days of going out 55 miles in a bouncing 30 footer are nearing and end for me, sad day when that happens.

You have to keep moving or the buzzards start circling.

If you still want to fish and get out on the water, you should do it. I'm 74 and fish often in my frameless inflatable 9' pontoon. I just row it and cast or troll, or anchor it. If you lug around a battery and electric motor, it might become more of a physical chore than you want. I would consider the 13 pound inflatable by davescaddenpaddlesports.com called the Predator. But you mentioned having a bad back. Can you row? That kind of exercise might actually be good for you back. Only you would know. Kayaks are heavy to load and unload and not nearly as stable as an inflatable pontoon.

I am 73 and wade fish near Corpus Christi Texas year around. I typically wade from a quarter mile to half a mile round trip. I have been doing this for years and have no plans to stop.

Boy, I'd hate to get bit by a shark a quarter mi from shore. How deep is it where you wade. I've seen them in knee deep water .

Sharks are not looking to bite people. Most often mistaken identity. Don’t fish dirty water. Don’t splash around. Don’t run thru schools of baitfish. Your chances are better of getting struck by lighting here in FL.

I'm 79 and have a ranger and still fish 3 or 4 times a week, if I can't find someone that wants to go I go by myself. The club I belong has a tournament every month of the year, I sometimes miss maybe one a year rain or shine . As long as your able keep doing what you love.
