As for the why. We use to have ponds that had nothing but carp to fish rodeos. Pay an entry fee and it paid out for the largest and the smallest every hour lasting about 8hrs.

Beings that the average Carp is much smarter than the average fisherman it's no wonder you can't catch many. I usually use a fly rod and flies or tube baits and spinning tackle. I don't eat any fish because they remind me of my ex wife but turtles think they're OK. The really stupid fish are bass and trout and that's why so many people fish for them. If your a sportsman you make all your fishing a challenge. Four or six pound test line to catch 20 plus pound carp is the only way to go. See if there is a carp club in your area. These folks have a wealth of knowledge to share. Good luck.

Carp are fun to catch and pull hard, this last spring I seen a kid catch a 33lb, just about pulled him in, I bet he will never forget that "fresh water tuna". in the spring the big mama's come into the shallow water. Yep corn on the bottom.

I'm not trying to be rude and REALLY don't want to offend. I just have to ask, "Why would anyone fish for carp?" Tell me what I'm missing, please.

Smoked Carp is delicious and a great delicacy. Second only to smoked Sable, which is almost impossible to find nowadays. I enjoyed them in my younger days and I miss them both.

How to catch carp? 2 kernels of sweet corn on a small hook with a single splitshot 2 feet up the line. Throw a big handfull of corn into the lake right when you get there. Please use a 15 lb test or close to it, when a fish breaks the line he will die 75% of the time. The hook does not rust and decompose.
