Hello everybody! I'm new here. Wright's lake in Ca. is getting a load of Rainbow trout today ( 8/16/20 ) Should I wait a day or two before fishing a newly stocked lake? Will they bite or hide?? I'm going anyway but I want to know what I'm doing. haha
Short answer, I don't know; Long answer, I don't know. Isn't the only reason for depositing trout in a lake or stream is for them to be caught by anxious fishermen? Why not go the first day and perhaps the third day and compare your results? Just Sayin...RJS

Seems logical, then we’ll have some data.

Raised trout are probably fed some kind of corn product and might be attracted to corn or corn scented bait. Especially newbie trout. Good Luck.
I remember reading something about planted fish years ago. I think they said after 3 or 5 days there shock factor gets less. You also can get Hatchery Pellet Power so its same feed they are used to.

That’s good information. In St. Louis county they stock local park lakes with trout in Nov. After Feb. 1st it is harvest time. No limits. I might give that a try.
Berkley makes a trout pellet flavored Power Bait. I've never used it so I don't know. The fish are probably not going to be real interested in food for a day or so until they get acclimated to the lake. But there are lots of fish in Wright's and you'll catch fish if you go early in the morning before the sun hits the water and you can fish in the evening and at night. Post some photos, it's real pretty up there.
Its just wright up there.
Well you're wright about that. And if you turn left instead of wright, you'll end up wright there at dark's lake, which just isn't wright's. But there's trout wright in there too. So that's alwright.

Well, two wrongs don’t make a Wright, but three Wright’s make a left.
Sorry, couldn’t resist
Yes, they will bite within minutes of hitting the water. I was perch fishing when a hatchery truck dumped a load of trout near me. A few minuted later we could not keep the trout off. Trolling crappie jigs at the time in 6 ft of water. Just a note for you hatchery trout fishermen: Hatchery trout eat pellets on or near the surface all their life. Keep that in mind when you fish recently (at least first two weeks and often much longer) released fish.
Depends on the water. I've seen it both ways.
Typically they need to settle into their new home. Fish want survive, eating is not the first thing on their mind.
In the past I have used....
Corn,Salmon eggs, night crawlers, rooster tails. cigarette butts, crickets....you get the point.
Some of the release areas only allow artificial baits (Lures).
Good Luck
Hi Dman. Welcome to the forum. As Blackdog says it can go plus or minus. I was fishing Los Vaqueros reservoir a few years back and a tanker truck pulled up and dumped a large load of rainbow trout. They were very active and jumping everywhere. Other fisherman and myself were catching them on Powerbait below a bobber with a split shot to keep it down. Last month I was fishing Deer Creek and a tanker pulled up near me and dumped about 40-50 trout. Most of them weren't interested in biting anything but I caught one with a single salmon egg with a split shot. Good luck!
