Unfortunately its no easy choice, just matters what type fishing you want to do. Alaska has awesome Salmon and Halibut. Key West has big fish,Tarpin,Grouper,Amberjack, Hogfish,Bonito,Pompano and lots of snapper. So from one end of the country to the other fish are there...

Like the logo on Skeeter boats, EAT, SLEEP, FISH. You can't say it any better that that.

And I like "alp's" comment, be happy where you are and enjoy what there is to offer where you are.

Like I just read, MICHIGAN. I live in Elk Rapids, Mi just north of Traverse City, Mi. I have 6 inland lakes 1/2-4 miles from me and the East Bay of Grand Traverse Bay. In the spring in elk Rapids, from shore, you get big, 25-15", steelhead and in the fall same area the King atlantic and coho salmon come in along with browns and lake trout. We also have a fall steelhead run-can't beat this area and I'm on;y 9/10 of a mile away from t he power dam.

Nothing personal, it"s that I like to fish year around. And for me, cutting a hole in the ice to fish is not my cup of tea.

When was the last time you fished the river at the dam. I havnt fished it since they redid the marina for the money people and screwed it up for the fisherman. We used to come down from the U.P to fish there. Like you say great steelhead salmon in the spring and fall and channel cat in July. For nocalsteve a little ice shouldn't turn you away from fishing no dedication LOL Barney

I would like to try sometime it the idea of knowing you are standing on ice and fish.
It isn't always pretty but this is called old man writing might your fishing line always be tight "Keep our Lord in your Hart and always have a safe and blessed week don't take yourself so seriously no one else does enjoy your life. Always keep your Horns raised high and proud.

The equipment they have now for ice fishing can keep you as comfortable as in your lazy boy at home. Well the icehuts are insulated, gas heater and power drill to dig the hole and for lazy fishers they have jaw jackers that hook them automatically.Getting there is the challenge.

Although it's tuff to live there if you don't like the cold Ely Mn. and the Boundary waters is where my heart resides. Eagles, deer, elk, moose are the tip of the iceberg for wild life and the quietness of the area is hard to believe until you have experienced it.

We used to either use "a spud-bar" or an"ice-auger", to make our holes through to the water, we were allowed 5X "traps" apiece. (3X sticks, a spool of line y a wee flag on the end of a 18-20" long strip of spring-steel, put lead & baited hook @ whatever depth we were feeling lucky at, THAT DAY, set the flag to pop up/ a fish-bite... Go play hockey.
Them days are gone for good, for me. I wouldn't DARE put on a pair of skates, anymore.
