Fred you said stripers are salt water only? Here in California they come up the rivers to spawn just like salmon and steelhead. They don't do that on the east coast? I know they're not native to California they were introduced here back in the 19th century, but seems odd they would change that drastically. There are also land locked ones here and in Nevada. In fact they're such a nuisance in some Nevada lakes there's no limit on em.

Oh yeah Spirit, they do come up a couple rivers, more so in the winter. We can catch them in brackish water year round. I just ment there's no freshwater Stripers, in any lakes, like other parts of the country have.

Got it. The rivers here that have direct access to the sea all have stripers in them year round, but mostly the smaller ones. I don't know much about their life cycles. I know the big mama ones, the 30, 40 pounders, show up in the spring. You aren't likely to catch one of those in September. Hard enough to catch a legal one (18 inches here). The little ones (shakers we call em) are plentiful, but hard to catch, they are nibblers and they like to eat and run.

Our size range is 28-35 slot, can't keep any under or over. The 2 main spawning areas on the East Coast are the Hudson river, and Chesapeake bay. The winter holdovers in CT are mostly in the Housatonic River. For me fishing in the winter happens on TV. These days are over.

So my favorite clear water lake finally opened back up this week. Unfortunately the ramp will only be open 10am to 8pm, actually you can't launch after 5pm. You have to be back at the ramp by 7:30, and off the property by 8(Municipal Water co.) I figured I'd give it a shot anyway.did ok considering the time and wind. 1 Largemouth 1lb 9oz, 2 Smallies 1lb 13oz, and 14oz. Got bit off by pickerel 2x deep and 1more at the boat. Got a couple rock bass, and a 3/4lb bluegill. I guess they like wacky worms too. Don't worry about the bleeding smallie, I put him on the stringer for 10minutes and he was ready to go, all released to catch another day. Maybe tomorrow LOL.

No plum, back to work tomorrow. I'm going to take the last week of the month off,and do a little exploratory fishing in some places I've never fished. Most a an hour plus ride and have small ramps /parking areas. I'd rather check them out on a weekday when less people are out, than waste a trip to find a full lot.

Good plan there Fred. I do the scouting on the weekends because the folks that work all week are out there hitting the spots that they caught a fish the week before. The go to spots are a given, its those coves and tributaries coming from the marsh where no one wants to waste there time is what i hit when its busy out there.

Pour a soda in the fishes mouth and on gills. Somehow stops the bleeding and saves the fish
