Nothing, in my view, beats the wonderful sweet taste of fresh Dungeness crab. I am a local Puget Sounder so maybe a bit bias but have tasted most of the crab you mentioned. Boiled for about 17 minutes is salted water, cooled and eaten is a bit of heaven!!

Welcome, Machiwalla. I know right where Sebastian is. I grew up in Satellite Beach and still have friends and family in the area. We used to hang lanterns over the side of Mather's bridge and scoop up shrimp and crabs galore using bamboo poles with chicken wire nets on the end.

I have found lots of good folks here talking about their experiences catching and cooking fish, and, five pages of crabs. Who'd a thunk it.

Red Lobster Is a poor place to eat sea food. Best to ask a local where they eat Sea food . Red Lobster would be my last pick.

My preference is a fine quality Maryland crab cake made with blue crab. I agree that the way the crab is prepared has a lot to do with it. It is also all a matter of degree. Iโ€™ve never had crab I didnโ€™t like. Just eating the crab meat itself that was steamed with just melted butter, blue crab is my absolute favorite.

The Blue Crab, Male is called a "Jimmy" Female is known as a "Sook", is found on the Atlantic side, from Maine to Florida. The best tasting Blue is found in the rivers that feed the Chesapeake, because of the grasses growing under their waters. It has a softer shell than a Dungeness, easy to crack. Delight of delights is the "Soft Shell", harvested when it has just moulted. Mainly, the crab cycle starts when the females are pushed into the Chesapeake by the Nor'easter winds. I have found no better tasting crabs. There are legendary 'Deathly family guarded " recipes for their crab cakes as well as those found online. The king of spices being "Old Bay". Enjoy!!

You got the blues down!! Like I mentioned I would not be able to choose a favorite between the stones and blues. You guys are really hurting me now. I have lobsters overnighted to me a couple times a year for special occasions - delivered live and cooked the same day. Outstanding! Had stone claws shipped in twice and was very disappointed. Never tried to have blues sent after the wreck with the stone claws.

Welcome there Tim35. Grab ahold and hang on its a ride here Have had dungess pulled from the pots and cooked up immediately. Very very good. Any crab with some drawn butter is to die for.
Only crabs we get here in the mountains are the ones from the local gals๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ˜ so we stay away and give them a wide berth!

Thanks for the info Huntm! At my age (84) it might be best to stick with the ones I pull up from about 80 ft. deep. Anyway I know I'll enjoy the ride with this group of guys and gals.
