Mouth-Fish/ Monk Fish... I gotta go/ charlykilo on that, although; I don't remember there being "THAT MUCH" dorsal fin on them. We also used to call them: "Sea-Nylons", 'cause when you butcher them, the guts fall outta the head in l-o-n-g slimy portions, about the color of a woman's panty-hose.
I've both sold & eaten the tales, they're right tasty.

It is A Oyster Toadfish. Caught around the jetties here. I dont eat them and heard they can crack an oyster open along with your finger.

Wvmike,
โWho Knowsโ is absolutely the first thing I open up every day we I go to FS. Have fun & be safe. As an avid fisherman & biologists, I really enjoy you posts. Thanks for the effort you put into them.

Now that you put a name to it, Gordon; "Toadfish" sure does "ring a bell", way back in my distant memory. We did used to drag up a few of those, while dredging Red-Backs, but never did eat one. I was told by others on the deck, that "they ain't no good", so, back in the Ocean they went.

Same for me. The morning show and then who knows. ๐
Resembles a Sculpin or Cabezon in Pacific Ocean but I haven't seen one on a Fishing Boat Deck live before unless it was when I was 4 or 5 yrs old. Way back then the Captain would let you take Sharks home. Anymore on a Public Charter they usually make you throw them back so no one gets bit on run back to shore.
