Carp. Fun to catch, taste and texture like mud. Invasive to anywhere and everything fish-wise. Destroys fish nests with its rudimentary style of feeding. Best catching, dressing him up with a shirt and small hat and take him to the bar for a drink.
It is a carp, and yes you can eat them. I like stuffing them with crab meat and shrimp and putting them on the grill wrapped in foil. And yes they can be very big.
Grass carp are being stocked in Southern lakes to handle Hydrilla weed. Where this happens, it's illegal to keep any that are caught. I believe it is a grass carp.

Stuff a piece of dirt with crab meat and shrimp and it's gonna be good, why not throw in some bacon for good measure :)

Are the grass carp the ones that jump into boats known to knock boaters out into the water??

Silver carp are easily frightened by boats, which cause them to leap up to 2.5–3.0 metres (8–10 ft) into the air,
Whole other critter.
When they are spawning make excellent targets for bow rigged with a retrievable arrow. No size or quantity limit since they are considered a trash fish in Texas! Just Sayin...RJS
I have a friend who told me his grandfather used to catch carp and put them in a watering trough of clear water and when the water would start to get murky he would drain it and refill with clear. He would keep doing this until the water remained clear. Once the water stayed clear he'd drain the tank and clean and cook the fish. My friend said when they were prepared like that it was some of the best fish he's ever ate.

Interesting. I could understand that affecting the taste, but I'd still question the texture. One way to find out.
Carp is bad, don't put them anywhere, pond, lake, river, or bathtub, that you want other fish. These fish, live in the shallows, and while 'wagging' their tail, will mess up any fish, that just laid eggs. Fishing tournaments for these is mostly with bow and arrow. Netting nearly 800 lbs in some, total weight, tournaments. So the questions is where do you put them!! Well one of my friends dug a hole with his backhoe near an old oak. He took the fish, and buried them. After several years of doing this, the tree died. He let it dry, and cut it for fire wood. He thru some in the fireplace one evening. After it started burning the smell of burning fish forced him to put the fire out, and throw the wood away. He said the whole house smell like bad fish.
And that's my story, and I'm sticking to it!! LOL
