If it is a carp,
I just looked it up, you can use corn, worms, cherry tomatoes, peanut butter doughballs and a few other things.

Basically they are bottom feeders. It also mentioned you can eat them if prepared right and they
can be very fishy tasting.

Zoey :)

Baits sound like what might use to bait kids to eat their dinner . 🤠

What kinda fish is this. Wonder if it’s eatable, how would you go about catching one. Do they get very big.

It's grass carp. They eat just about anything. I've caught some this past week on prince & hares ear nymphs in my local river. The bigger ones can give you a decent struggle on a light rod.

Some varieties are considered game fish in Europe. Here we shoot them with bow & arrow!

It is a grass carp . They neuter them and put them in the canals here in Florida. They are illegal to keep. Catch and release only. In places where you can keep them they are very good smoked.

Just got back from a couple hours smalljaw fishing, saw dozens of common carp, and 2 golden ones. Look like giant goldfish. Swam away before I could get a picture. 15-20lbs.

Looks like a silver shiner, big minnow, good bait, large
ones can put up a good fight on lite tackle.

They get big. I caught one in Orlando that weighed at twenty five pounds and my buddy that lived at the lake said it wasn't one of the big ones. Caught it on a popping bug and flyrod, fishing for bluegills. Quite a tussle with that gear.

Grass carp. Caught this one 4 days ago while fishing for bluegills and bass on the bottom with garden worms.
Didn't throw it back. Left it on the bank and as I was leaving to go home, a Bald eagle swooped down and carried it away. It weighed in on a digital scale at 11.7 pounds.

Have tasted carp cooked in different parts of the country by different people. Never have I ever been able to eat more than two bites. I fish for them because they are one hell of a fighter. There are carp fishing tournaments around Austin, Tex. If your catch is not in the 40 - 60 pound class or more you won't even earn an honorable mention.

I used to fish for them in larger rivers in PA when I was a kid. Have caught them up to 40 pounds. While I tried my very best, I could never come up with anything that made them taste like anything other than mud- and has the texture of mud as well. But having said that, there were always families on the river fishing who were ecstatic if I caught one and gave it to them, so there are those folks who know how to prepare them and like them. I will never be one of them.

In Missouri we call that grass carp. The only way I've been taught, is to filet carefully. It has a vein that goes down the backbone similar to a shrimp and you don't want to disturb you while you're flying it. Once you fillet it take the vein, cut the rib cage out breaded deep-fried. In my opinion it tastes just like a channel cat.
