Hi everyone,
Question on the paddle tails, we watched several YouTube videos from fishing them and rigging them before we came here to Atlantic Beach. When putting them on a hook or jig. Some start the hook in the slit that runs down them and some from the other side? Hopefully someone can explain this to us. We need to go out with Mom soon. But we will be back in a few hours at the most.

Thanks always,
Zoey and Beth :)

Zoey interesting question and i plan to follow this as much as you do.

Personally i am using two types of paddle tails and my best reference would be the Z man Diesel and the Z man regular paddle tail. I believe they both come in the same color. As of yesterday the Opening Night was catching the trout and the stripers along with flounder as well. They both have the same tail movement.

However the diesel has a slit in it for scent to sit in and extend the life of the scent.

As for installing on the hook i start with the hook showing out the slit. After it gets chewed up i flip it over and take the hook out the back of it where there is a little more plastic to work with.

Personal experience both ways work great. I also recommend a jig hear like the Z man has where barbs hold the lure on longer. Right now i go between a yellow eye and a red eye jig. Some days it seems one eye hits better then the other.

If you want a little more tail action when the paddles aren't working check out the curly tail lures. Same thing slit on some and non slit. Not sure if they are called diesel curli's or not.

Take your paddle tail and run your hook down through the nose and have the hook come out the back, top part, of the swimabit. The paddle will be facin down and the hook will be on top comin out the back.
I use gel super glue to hold the swimbait up on the jig head and it makes it last longer. Doesn't tear the bait up as quickly. IDK if that answered your question or not? Hope it helps.

They make a gel type also. Doesn't run and stays on the jig head and works great. When you push the swimbait up on the jig head make sure not to glue your fingers together from the excess glue that might get on them. Did that the last time Scorchy and I went out. Took a piece of hide off one of them when I finally got them apart. Hate it when that happens.

Okay that is good to know Thanks for letting me know.

For now i have been using the weighted Z man jig heads and they have 2 barbs on them that keep the lure pulled up.

I had one yesterday where the lure was so worn out i was finding different positions to keep the lure on. Must have caught 30 - 40 fish on it, so discolored from the shrimp scent i didn't even need to add any scent.

Well that was good until a 3' Gar decided to take it away from me. Got the darn thing to the side of the yak with his teeth straight up and went to grab him and SNAP. I just hate losing the jig more so then the used up bait.

I know. Seems like I catch 30 + fish on one jig and swimbait and then you put a new one on and you might catch 1 fish on it and then something happens and you lose it. Darn, hate it when that happens.

Sure is nice to know that i am not alone in some of the things that happen to me. The old saying 1 and done hurts sometimes. Especially when its that $$$$$ Twitch bait go to lure.

I know. I go to great lengths to retrieve a bait that is hung up. I don't start yankin on it and pullin on it too hard. I just go over there and try to get it unhung that way. I usually get it back. However, if you start yankin and pullin real hard, you just set the hook into whatever it is hung up on and most likely you won't be able to get it loose then. My fishin partner is that way. He's startin to let me chase it for him a little more now and we usually are able to get our stuff back.

You beat me with the super glue trick.
If you get a tear in the lure super glue will work to fix it.
I usually have a problem getting them on the hook in the right position.

We did buy pro-cure inshore saltwater super gel. Sweet Shrimp bait wax and garlic bait wax. I really like those jig heads. We will probably order them tonight. And a couple packs of the paddle tails. We have a jar of two inch white curly tails by Gulp. And two packs of these green 3" ones. One pack looks like they have two tails.

Zoey :)

You will find that the gulp gets chewed up rather quickly. Depending on what is attacking it. Eastern Oz is the garlic man, he will give you some good tips there.
