Don't fret crawling up here Twister, you get an itch to settle with me I'll met you on the Pearl river bridge in
Foxworth & one of us will be gator bait by dark. Course we'll have to hash things out over a rabbit sandwich before the main event. I don't mind tying on the feed bag at Mack's Catfish House outside Hattiesburg. That would be a good place for a last meal, they have about everything. Our new man Mr Harris Fudpucker got me going on ammo then he hit on gun oil & I just couldn't hold back. Did you read his comment "even porn stars get better with practice"? Never gave that area a thought but if I could remember what porn stars do i could give it a moment's thought. Brother Fudpucker is from Alaska & now lives in Louisana. He just might have some fish cornered down there & needs help pulling them in. He's an old gun dealer, your kind of fishing partner.

Well coon I can see you have a better idea than I did, it’s a long way down off that bridge, may have to rethink that. As good as that last meal part sounds I think a truce is in order. I spoke too soon. Sorry.

BC, I thought the fish was cornered but slipped thru. I did manage to take a 23lb snapper in place of fish. After putting in the boat, I must have looked like his next meal, he kept chasing me. LOL I had to put the net on him, and kept pushing him away. I also had a gator take my 'noodle' to shore to eat the catfish on it. I pulled up and took the back door back into the water, and I got my noodle back. Life is great!!

By the way gun guys, I use a small amout of G 96 synthetic gun oil that I order, not the Walmart kind, their different. If there’s something better I’m open to suggestions. Don’t know if you happen to own a Rossi 22 LR long gun but I bought 1 and love it. Made a discovery. The rifle comes with like a 7 round mag or so not many. Anyway a mossburg number 77 mag will fit and work in this rifle. Oh, 25 rounds to. It’s a nice setup, I recommend it.

Dang Harris that tired me out reading it. Where did all this take place? I’ve been in a few binds before but maybe not like that. I was fishing one night in a state lake with 5 or 6 bass on a stringer. Small boat no live well and the boat started moving sideways. You know the rest of the story. Gator was determined, I was more than willing to share.

When I drove from the east coast to MT i figured that somewhere along the line I was going to be a long way from nowhere, and I was. That trip was the first time I ever saw a sign that said 300 miles to the next fuel, so it was nice to know I had a friend in the console next to me.

Sounds like the sand hills of Nebraska...even the coyotes carry canteens.
Now watch someone take me serious on the coyotes!!! I've gotten some interesting responses on my sick humor.

Twister, about 20 years ago I was visiting my brother's sister in Oloh (for you pilgrams in New Jersey Oloh is in Mississippi). My brother in law tells me early one morning that we're going fishing with his uncle Hanna down to the Pearl river. I'm game, I love river fishing & the Pearl was new to me. We loaded his old beat up flat bottom boat in the bed of the truck then put 2 ice chest inside the boat. 1 was empty & 1 had water & ice. My brother in law says "load up we're ready". I was so naive I ask about our rods & bait but was told we didn't need anything. We followed his uncle to Columbia & unloaded in a small park. Uncle Hanna had a flat bottom boat that he & my brother in law rode in. My nephew & I took the other boat. The only fishing equipment we had in the boat was 2 fish nets. Both boats had small gas motors. We headed upstream for what seemed like a mile or so then pulled up in some shallows. It was there i found out what our fishing expedition consisted of. My brother in law & uncle Hanna would take off downstream slowly & the nephew & I were to follow at least 50 or so feet behind. Uncle Hanna had a fence charger with long leads & at least 6 feet of heavy chain dragging the bottom. Following behind it was our job to use the dip net's to retrieve the fish which surfaced belly up & were knocked silly but weren't dead. Uncle Hana's was a critical job. He had to use enough electrical charge to bring the fish to the surface but not enough charge to bust their bladder. He was good at it. We had all the fish we wanted pretty quickly. First time I ever saw those spotted catfish. I had never done anything like that & haven't done it since. There were gator slides all along the river on both sides but none surfaced, thank goodness.
We only took catfish but I did see lots of other fish. The fish would swim around in circles a few times then go back down. I was assured by Uncle Hanna the shock was only temporary. It was a fishing experience I'll never forget & thank goodness no game warden spotted us. What a trip. Tight lines.

Coon I had forgotten about fishing that way but I did try it one time in a farm pond. Uncle Hanna was a bit more advanced with his technique. How it started was, the men would use the old wall hanging ring up your neighbor phones the ones you talked to the phone and held the funnel like earpiece to your ear. These phones back then had a battery with a coil and condenser. Need I say more? When they got to their spot on the Leaf River in their wooden boats, chain would drop and they began ringing up catfish. Story goes about two local calls fed the neighborhood. It was known then as telephoning. Yeah highly illegal. You got the full treatment my friend. Would you do it again? I wouldn’t. If you were around 100 yrs from now and told that story you might just get committed. There are grownups and some very elderly who have never of anything like that. You have a piece of history to carry with you. But you know what the crown jewel would be, grandpas old wooden boat. Do you suppose there’s one out there somewhere? Thanks for that memory.

More than a few ARVN used to augment their issued rations by tossing some hand grenades into the water especially in the delta. Nothing that came up was allowed to go back down.

Twister, do i remember those old wall phones. Our phone number was 25J. There were several other folks on our line & our ring was 2 short & 1 long ring. One could listen in to the neighbors conservations. Our phone system here was small & the switchboard was in a friends house. Only 1 operator & it was fascinating to watch her work. I see one of those old phones occassionally & they bring big bucks. Telephoning was a quiet sport around here also & was highly illegal. Never did it. When I went shocking in the Pearl uncle Henna had a 12 volt fence charger with a rubber band around the points so the charge was almost constant. He had the charger in a gunny sack & held it over the side of the boat so he could easily drop it in the river if someone approached us. It was a very unique experience & no, I would never do it again. Once was enough.
