You really don’t need stink baits at all....they are quite offensive, and it is difficult to rid yourself of the scent once you use them...when they say cats are attracted to a scent, you can achieve it with natural scents too, like garlic, shrimp, or anise....stick to natural baits soaked in a natural scent, and I bet you’ll be just as successful, if not moreso, than with the stinkbaits, and you’ll lose the socially unacceptable smell.
I’ve used cheap hot dogs sprinkled with garlic salt and did pretty good too. You can just run your leader through a large needle and thread the hot dog, like a half of one, on the leader and slide it right down on a treble hook. Stays on good and they love em. Good luck.
Keep the scent off your hands. Use a chunk of Ivory hand soap.

Everything everyone has mentioned on here stinks. Why not try weiners. I always had luck fishing for catfish from the river with weiners. Chicken liver is good but it is messy and smells. My daughter said they used raw chicken dipped in cherry or strawberry Koolaid.
Blue catfish I use the local cast net shad about hand size= 20 to 60 lb. Blues. Mud &yellow cats= stink baits and worms a d such maybe up to 5, 6? Lbs fish. Channel cats prefer live minnows of any kind localy obtained or at least fresh baits fish, chicken, I fish mainly in the Northwest river, North Carolina and Virginia. I am surrounded by Sounds and rivers on tidal waters to the Atlantic Moyock NC.
RTG66...Thanks for belly laugh I got reading your post....reminded me of a past girlfriend's complaint about Powerbait, far more benign, as far as "stinkiness" goes.....She was "let go" (C&R ?) after that camping trip....complained about her clothes "smelling like a campfire", as well... LOL !
Wear surgical gloves, get a noseplug....buck up ! The reward is on the bottom out there, sniffing, prowling, just waiting to be dipped in egg-wash and cornmeal in its next incarnation !
Mormon Crickets don’t stink. I use them all summer and the catfish love em. Hot dogs might I suppose if you let them rot🤷♂️. Fresh fish chunks don’t smell bad either. I guess if you don’t like the smell of fish you’re really not gonna wanna catch a catfish. Lol
😂😂Safeway has catfish nuggets for sale. Already cleaned and shot full of preservatives. They won’t make your hands smell to bad or anything.

Thumbs up Catfish. When you clean them the guts smell worse then Stink Bait. Keep a small bucket with water and Clorox in it. cleans up your hands just fine.
I get chicken gizzards marinated in fish sauce all cats love them an they stay on your circle hook better

You can use cut bail like bluegill, shiners, skipjack etc. I've caught blue cats over eighty pounds on chunks of shiner or skipjack. You can also use several smaller minnows on a single hook. Also, deep diving crankbaits or rubber worms rigged carolina style, or twister tails or whale tails on a heavy jig head. A large gob of worms or night crawlers also works great.
A couple of guys I know swear by crickets. But I've had pretty good luck with just about everything. Nightcrawlers, cut bait, crawdads, pickled herring, liver. Even caught some on crankbaits.
