I’ll try to remember that. I don’t expect to be doing any fishing until April, at the earliest. It’s tough here in the north east on the Atlantic.

Great South Bay, Fire Island inlet, Moriches inlet, the new inlet at Old Inlet, and nearshore waters. My fishing friends with boats all downsized so off shore is temporarily out of reach.
I truly love being farther out looking for shark, tuna and the likes.

I had my own 30’ sport fishing boat. That was 20 years ago. One friend had a 30’ downeaster for a few years, then it was sold, another built a 30’ downeaster from a relic, we used that for about 6 years. These days I’m relegated to using my canoe, which I’ve had for close to 40 years. I’m just not up to going out into the ocean in a canoe anymore, which I have done. Having seen whales, porpoise and giant sea turtles from a canoe once is Plenty enough for me.

My friend and I have done that test. He swears by Velveeta cheese sprayed with WD-40, thinks I and others are "being scammed" into buying Powerbait. We hit the lake , putting out 2 rods each....he had his limit (5) in about an hour, I took two hours and came home with 4... each smaller than any one of his 5. I'm convinced, though I do still use Powerbait when I don't have any Velveeta or choose to not carry a cooler to put it in.

I've used it for bass on plastic worms. Seems to work well for me. Anise works well too and doesn't leave an oil slick on the water.

Pillsbury popnfresh buisquet dough works too!
I’ve never sprayed it w wd40 but have caught trout with it when I was a kid
Salmon egg size ball on a tiny egg hook.
Velveeta same thing
But I prefer a pumped up knight Crawler with a mini marshmallow to make it float above the grass.

Before Berkley Power Bait folks used to get real creative with what they used to float their bait up off the bottom. Marshmallows were very popular, still are with some. A Kraft miniature marshmallow topped with a Pautzke Fire Ball (Sierra Sundae) has caught many a trout. They love Green Giant canned corn too.

The corn will catch fish sure!
They like the carbs!
but don’t chum with it!
Trout will eat it and die because they can’t digest it.
I think it might be illegal in some areas.
That’s what I heard but don’t know for sure.

I had a fishin magician pocket pole as a kid and we caught some Giant Bullfrogs in Walnut Creek swinging a treble hook loaded with bisquet dough. Old lady next door ate them legs.
She was a pie lady, we ate pie she ate frog legs. Happy Happy!
