That looks authentic. Is it real? Don't seem possible - looks like it's from the 40's or 50's when prudes ran the world.

What no mention of a fish attractant? That is old, back in the cane pole days.

There is a myth that WD40 has fish oil in it but it's not true, according to the MFG. no silicone or kerosene either. I've tried it in the bay in SD with no luck. I use UNI butter, sea urchin gonads!! Smear it on the plastics and it catches most everything that swims in the saltwater. Larry W.

You are correct about the fish oil ingredient, and maybe salt water fish don't like it, but I can attest to the fact that catfish do.

I don't fish freshwater in SD anymore too many people in water crafts, ski boats and bass boats doing 50+ Mph. Sold my skeeter bass boat and got a deep V Smokercraft 15' and catch lots of fish on the bay and no launch fee, fishing fee and extra sticker on the boat for the Quaga muscle problems on the lakes, extra $$$ don't eat any either, if I want fish I go to Outback and get Steak and a Lobster. I fished for Catfish in the60s on El Capitan Res and used Mackeral and Bowkers stink bait. Larry W.

I lived down there for 20+ years and I gave up on freshwater fishing about 2 years into that. Too many good spots to fish on the coast to put up with all that. I fished El Cap once.

The folks fishing for striped bass out on the pier in Piermont on the Hudson River swear by it. They spray their sandworms with it.
Strange but it works.

The description in the advertisement makes it sound like a marital aid.
Would raise some concern with folks today.

I've seen it used on Jigs on party boats but I never tried it myself.

The racy double entendres in the ad are made me doubt it was an authentic ad from the period that's being suggested. I don't know if they would have allowed that to be displayed publicly. Different world back then.

I would like to see a scientific study on the topic. Boat fishing side by side. One with WD40, one with out. Same bait, same everything.
Heck, we are the ones most qualified to do it.
Oh, right, we’re too busy fishing.
🤪
