The San Juan River out of Navajo Dam NM..
Lake Taneycomo (White River) in Missouri is really good trout fishing. Fly fishing or spinning gear. Huge brown and rainbow trout.
Gotta love topics that are completely ambiguous, like this. I am not certain why it's always stated as "what's the BEST". You can ask for suggestions, you could even have a voting period for the nominations.... but .. BEST ???..... ask that, and you're only gonna get personal bias and alotta d**k-swingin'.......movin' on now,....to a topic that I can learn something from.
Idaho, Montana, or Wyoming
Definitely Florida!!! Bonefish to Tarpon to Snook to Permit... well, the list goes on:)
Maine. All species of trout plus landlocked salmon.
If you are a fly fisherman and you have a place to go to apply your talent I would guess it doesn't really make that much difference what state your are in or even what you are fishing for. The joy is in the doing. We live in a country that is full of places, coast to coast, and north to south. I would go to Montana to be in Montana not because the fishing is any better than where I am. I would go to Maine to be in Maine for the same reasons. I have learned from this post of a lot of places that I would like to visit and if I can catch a fish or three while I'm there so much the better.
The sportsman’s paradise no better fishing anywhere in the country

Welcome to the forum LarryG. I would guess that you are in Louisiana from your post. If you would add that to your profile lots of us can be jealous of where you are regarding your successes as well as asking you about where to go and what to use when in your neck of the woods. Looking forward to your stories and pics. Glad you are here.

We travel full time and have been to most states West of the Mississippi River fly fishing. We have found great fishing in all. I think that the best state for fly-fishing is : here it comes wait for it! The state you live in and the waters you are intimately familiar with!!

If you are a fly fisherman and you have a place to... (

This guy's got the right idea.
What I want to know and
would consider the best place
to fish ? Wherever you can
catch the most/biggest fish
without sacrificing a pint of
blood to the mosquitos, black
flies, etc. !
Arkansas, you have the Little Red River , White River & Norfolk River for trout. Countless lakes & ponds for Bass & Panfish.
