Thanks Oz, I expect this new journey to be a lot of fun. Neither my brother in law or I can claim to know a lot about this yet. It is a learning experience that we share and will help each other along. I do appreciate your comments.
This is the first fishing pole I have ever owned. Today I went to a local sporting goods store which had a really big selection of everything you could want. I walked around by myself for bout 10 minutes or so looking at all they offered. Then I got a salesman to help me make my decisions. I let him know that I am just getting started and wanted a pole to use for fresh water. I’m not buying my boat till next summer and my brother in law only wants to freshwater fish. So he set me up with a GX2 Ugly Stick with a spinning real. Now I’m ready to at least be using my own equipment.
Ok Troutis, checking it now.
Went fishing on Crystal River today with my brother in law using his equipment. My brother in law did catch a couple of catfish which were released back to the River. I want my own equipment but I’m not sure of what kind of pole I want. Something that works for freshwater and coastal salt water use. I think the best thing to do is to go to a sports shop and talk to someone that works there. Any hints I receive today would be helpful for my shopping tomorrow.
Hey Hank, I’m fishing at Crystal River Tuesday. I’m a newbie at fishing though but heard that Kings Bay is a good spot!

Thanks Oz, looking forward to my new adventures in fishing!
Moved into Florida from Michigan in 2004 and love it here in this State! I’m 70 years old and have fished very little during my years on this planet. I have decided that it is time to learn. I have absolutely no equipment at this time but have plans to buy a boat next summer, equip myself and give it my best shot. In the mean time I have been boating with my brother in law and today we gave fresh water fishing a try with his boat and equipment. I don’t think he knows a whole heck of a lot more than me and all we had was the fun of trying and me learning how to cast my line. Next Tuesday morning we will be trying again in Crystal River. I’ve heard that Kings Bay is a good spot ad was wondering what sort of bait we should use. My brother in law has figured that going to the grocery store and buying shrimp would be a good thing to try. However I did read that “live bait” is the best. Any suggestions on what we should use would be appreciated.
