New fishing pole suggestions

Went fishing on Crystal River today with my brother in law using his equipment. My brother in law did catch a couple of catfish which were released back to the River. I want my own equipment but I’m not sure of what kind of pole I want. Something that works for freshwater and coastal salt water use. I think the best thing to do is to go to a sports shop and talk to someone that works there. Any hints I receive today would be helpful for my shopping tomorrow.

Try a 7'6" spinning graphite rod, with a fast taper made for saltwater and good guides! If planning to use braid, get one with guides just for braid. I cut my finger to the bone with braid and will not use it inshore, mono has been good to me! So much more coastal salt fishn there and freshwater for windy days too!

I recommend keep using your bro-n-law’s stuff till you get the feel for what you really want; assuming he’ll let you try more than one outfit. There are plenty of good rigs to be had at modest prices; but there is a lot of junk out there at amazing high prices. You might want to go over to Sodium’s in Crystal River for some advice, and to handle different outfits. Or you could go over to Granny’s at breakfast time and strike up a conversation with the old salts that hang out there.
