Thinking about tossing a line or two into the surf at Onslow Beach in the morning (Thurs, 3/14). Anyone seen much action there lately?

Port Royal is a great place to fill your freezer full of shrimp. I see why you would be jealous. But you have a double hook up there on that beach. Now I'm jealous. LOL. IF I haven't welcomed you aboard before. I am now. You got some great fishing up there around the outer banks. I use to fish for Cobias awhileback.

I do miss those days in the Port Royal area, waaaay back in 1980-81. We had fresh everything almost year round. We stayed mostly in brackish waters because we had a bass boat, but did do a little for cobia and drum, and of course bass, flounder, pompano, and I don't remember what all else, plus all the shrimp a person could want. We'd do a bit of crabbing too, so we were set.

We drove the beach in Corolla on OBX a couple of weeks ago, but didn't stay fishing for long. We didn't realize we didn't have the current year county sticker on the truck, and the law was up and down the beach, so didn't want to chance a ticket. That was a first for me, and we got to see the wild horses too, which was a real treat. Actually, that's where I got the two-fer that's in my profile photo here.

Bogue Inlet Pier reports slow fishing all week, especially bottom fishing, but with a several big Spanish to 5 pounds and blues. There are still beautiful speckled trout on live mullet minnows

We ended up going early Sat instead, and fished from 7am to about 4:30pm and didn't get a single fish in the cooler.

A few real small (what my boyfriend calls) pig fish, and I brought in one small blue, but not even a sea mullet or blow toad to be had. Highlight of the day was when I caught a small sea robin. Have never even seen one before!

Others weren't having much better luck than we were; a few small pompano, but nothing to write home about. And crabs were stealing all our bait ... boyfriend and I each hauled three all the way up to the pier, and a couple more that dropped off on the ride up.

Thanks! Anyplace in particular we could get to without a boat? How about near the bridge on the ICW at Onslow Beach?

Try Virginia Creek they were thick this morning. They run in the creek to try to get away from the fish.

Looking for more in the Jacksonville/Camp Lejeune area, but good to know.

Headed to Boque Inlet Pier early Thurs morning ... any idea what sort of activity to expect? We'll have shrimp, cut mullet, and squid for bait.

The shrimp are finally here in Jacksonville area. Appreciate all the info.

Where at? Tired of spending money to buy bait!

Boyfriend has a cast net, but we've never done any shrimpin' around here.

He has a cast net, but in the few hours since my last post, he's no longer in my life. Guess I need to find someone else to take me fishing. :)

Awesome! Might be picking your brain about where to get what. My boyfriend prefers salt water, but I used to do a lot of brackish, mostly when stationed at Parris Island decades ago. We were going to hit Onslow Beach yesterday, but didn't make it out there.
