Anywhere near the boat launch has way too much boat traffic. If you go down from the boat launch to where the two branches converge together- it is good fishing- after dark. Some people fish off of shore there too. I'm strictly a boat guy. I usually go down river & anchor up right above the smaller boat club on the west side. Always had a good time fishin. don't be afraid to try different baits. I have used- minnows, worms, chicken liver & homemade bait. You never know what they'll want. Have fun.

Hi, I personally have fished above the fabre dam & as soon as the sun goes down, the channel cats come out to hunt. Expect cats 20 to 30" with some bruisers going bigger. All the years i have fished there, never caught a flathead & I have used all kinds of bait! However-- 2 yrs ago, I started fishing below the fabre dam, when water levels allow. I have a 60hp merc w/ prop & was able to get up to the old power plant & anchor. We caught channel & flatheads. Not monsters, but sizeable fighters. I would say for every 2 channel cats- you would catch, expect 1 flathead. Like I said, it all depends on the water level. If your going to try that area- you'll need to put your boat in at shady nook. After launching, go upriver to the old power plant & anchor somewhere. Do not go downriver as it will get shallower & there is an old eel wall down there also. A few people have torn up their lower unit hitting it. Hope this helps you & good luck.

Hi sasquatch, I wanted to reply to your post the other day, but was having health problems. There is 2 access areas at the lake augusta dam. One below the dam at shady nook but, you better have a flat bottom with a jet. It gets very shallow at times. I tried my 16' v-bottom last year & didn't get very far. The other access is on the island at the marina. Very good facilities. When the dam is inflated, that is where I mostly put in at. Fishing is very good- I mainly fish for bass & catfish. Weekend traffic on the water can be nuts, so be careful. I fish for catfish maybe 500 yds upriver from the dam- either side. I anchor about 50-75 yds from shore. Wait till dusk. That's when the catties come out to hunt. I've caught some big bruisers every time. As far as bait- I use large worms, minnows & yes, even chicken liver. Good luck fishing & be safe.

Hi, neighbor. I live in Elysburg & am 71yrs old. usually I'm out with my wife on our pontoon at Bald Eagle every weekend thru the summer. During the week, I like to fish other lakes & the river when possible. I have a 16' fishing boat just for that. We could definitely get together sometime. Last year we had a blast catching big channel catfish on the river. They put up a good fight.

I have a pontoon boat that I keep moored up at Bald eagle. Just about every weekend we are up there fishing & relaxing. It's a great lake but 2yrs ago they had a massive crappie kill & ever since, the fishing sucks. Still a great lake to enjoy yourself. I live about 1 1/2 hrs away from there. I also want to try Beltzville lake sometime. So when is this big get-together in june suppose to be?

I live in n. central Pa. & have been fishing since the 60's. I've fished mexico, canada, and a bunch of states in between & yep- saltwater, too. At 71 , I'm starting to slow down but still use my boat when I can. The article on the Conawingo dam was very interesting. I can't believe I have never fished that area. Does anyone know when is the best time of the year to give it a try? Great to be onboard with ya'll.
