KEMAN FROM SNOW SHOE PA. Took a Marine buddy down to Shikellamy State Park today to try and figure out where and which way we should go with my 17ft 60hp boat in about 2 weeks to fish for flat heads, we release all fish! Not trying to horn in on anyone but could really use some help. Thank you, Keman
I’m sure there are flatheads up there but the best areas are much further down river, without a jet drive on you 60hp I would suggest the Conowingo pool. Lake Aldrad is also very good but it has much shallower water and is a place that you need to be very careful of shallow rocks. Lake CLARK IS THE SAME.
Hi, I personally have fished above the fabre dam & as soon as the sun goes down, the channel cats come out to hunt. Expect cats 20 to 30" with some bruisers going bigger. All the years i have fished there, never caught a flathead & I have used all kinds of bait! However-- 2 yrs ago, I started fishing below the fabre dam, when water levels allow. I have a 60hp merc w/ prop & was able to get up to the old power plant & anchor. We caught channel & flatheads. Not monsters, but sizeable fighters. I would say for every 2 channel cats- you would catch, expect 1 flathead. Like I said, it all depends on the water level. If your going to try that area- you'll need to put your boat in at shady nook. After launching, go upriver to the old power plant & anchor somewhere. Do not go downriver as it will get shallower & there is an old eel wall down there also. A few people have torn up their lower unit hitting it. Hope this helps you & good luck.
THANK YOU, What about at shikellamy state park boat launch ! Looks good thru there. Thanks Keman
Anywhere near the boat launch has way too much boat traffic. If you go down from the boat launch to where the two branches converge together- it is good fishing- after dark. Some people fish off of shore there too. I'm strictly a boat guy. I usually go down river & anchor up right above the smaller boat club on the west side. Always had a good time fishin. don't be afraid to try different baits. I have used- minnows, worms, chicken liver & homemade bait. You never know what they'll want. Have fun.
Thank you Judzee, Very big help, We will give it a shot middle of next week ! Thank you again for your help. Keman, from Snow Shoe Pa.
