Beautiful fish...too bad they are becoming more and more endangered. I remember many years ago a guy in Idaho, on the Snake River caught one that weighed something like 360 lbs. it was at the time-and perhaps still-was the record for a fresh water fish taken with rod and reel.

We live on the Oregon Coast. We have our own issues with the Echo Mt. Fire so know your pain. Prayers for you and Oregon.

I live in north Texas and have a 9yr grand son that loves top fish. He doesn’t care what he catches, but like to sling lures. Does anyone know where we can bank fish. We live in Denton with many lakes around us. I haven’t lived here very long. Any help would be great, I don’t want him to lose interest

Legend...many years ago I was graduate student at UNT. I remember fishing a small stream, but I can’t recall the name. Maybe someone can help...I think it flowed into Lewisville. I remember white bass were abundant and would have been a great experience for your grandson. We used to kill them on small feathered jigs.

Follow up question...does power bait ever go bad? Does it have a shelf life once opened?

Hope I don’t gross anyone out, but I used to use my wife’s (now ex—can’t guess why) used tampons cut in about 1 inch pieces. Stayed on hook really good, oozed blood for hours.

Thanks for advice. I’ll be farther down the coast, near Puerto Vallarta. Small place named Yelapa. I’m sure there won’t be any tackle shops, so whatever I use, i’ll have to bring.

I’m going to be in Mexico during the month of February; if I want to take a break from drinking margaritas under the cabana, I may try surf fishing. Anyone have any suggestions re lures, rigs, bait? Anyone have experience re licenses? Any guess as to what sort of fish might be available? Any information, suggestions would be most appreciated.

Used to use my wife’s used tamped, cut into about 2” long balls. They stay on hook really well and seem to bleed for 30 minutes or so.
