Welcome Capt. Hope you enjoy the site and look forward to your posts. I also fish year round all over the Country. Primarily a Bass angler, but sometimes do salt water as well as fresh and target other species.

I bought an old rugged aluminum boat. Bass tracker pro 17, started to change the old nasty carpet, after removing carpet the floor was bad. After removing the floor the foam was rotten and waterlogged, after getting this deep into it I thought I’ll just give her a complete rebuild, used a come-a-long to left the boat off the trailer, gave the old trailer a couple coat of paint, then sanded the old boat inside and out down to bare aluminum. Replaced the old foam in bottom and sides of boat with new foam 2” thick. Rewired it with heavier wire and a new fuse block, new floor, painted inside of boat to match motor, biscuit color, outside of boat red, bottom of boat black. Two coats of clear coat on everything, replaced the old carpet with new EVA foam decking, extended the front deck back even with the console, added two dry hatches, took me around two weeks, and I think it turned out great. I’ll try to post some pictures before and after if I can.

Looks GREAT! Hope I do half as well with my project. Now go put some fish in the boat.

Cool, where did you stay on your pitstop?

Didn't stay, just stopped for gas and snacks at the Gas Station at the Lafayette exit off I-65. Never went into town. That was 40 years ago so I probably wouldn't even recognize the place if I saw it today. But I have a fishing buddy that lives in Indianapolis that I've been trying to get up there and fish with. Hopefully sometime this Spring. Maybe we'll come your way and you can show us some honey holes (smile).

Welcome neighbor. I'm in Lafayette

Welcome aboard Larry. Lafayette was my pitstop on the way home to Louisville, KY when I was stationed at Great Lakes Navel Station.

I mainly focus on stripers and hybrids, have gotten a few smallmouth. Douglas lake is also nearby and I know of quite a few big largemouth and blue cats.

Yes, fished Douglas Lake and did well with some
3 and 4 lb largemouth. Only had 1 day so didn't get to explore the whole lake.

Thanks, also considering Cherokee Lake. any thoughts?

Never fished Cherokee Lake and not familiar with it. I'd like to hear other angler's thought on it myself.

A little advice Larry. If you click on "Quote Reply" instead of "Reply" everyone will be able to see your post but the person you're talking to will know you're talking to him or her. Otherwise your reply is just posted.

Welcome Dave. Just purchased 5 acres near San Juan National Forest. Going to get out there this spring.

I’m new here , I live in River , Kentucky. I fish in the river as often as I can.. usually aim to catch catfish or bass but I’m happy with anything lol I was trying to figure out the best times to go fishing for my area and best bait and really any good tips that could be useful for me would be greatly appreciated.. thank you :)

Hello Kimmie, welcome to the stage. See you are in Eastern KY. Don't know how far you're willing to travel but there are two large bodies of water relatively near you. East Lynn Lake is Northeast of you. Good place for both catfish and bass. I've personally only fished it once so I can't tell you much about fishing spots and the like. Maybe there are others on here that have and will chime in. If not, I suggest you Google Bait shops and marinas on and around the lake and give then a call with any questions. I've always found them willing to help. The other place is Cave Run Lake and it is due West of you near Morehead, KY. I fish it at least two or three times every year. It is the Muskie Capital of the World. Plenty of places to fish from the bank and plenty of places to put in a boat. Great fishery that has every species in abundant numbers. I stay at Cave Run Lodge. Great people and they will treat you like family. Good luck and keep your lines tight.

Took my 5 year old Grandson fishing yesterday. He caught his first Largemouth Bass. 3 pounds. He loves to fish and has no problem catching and reeling them in, but I still can't get him to hold them. Even a little bluegill 🙂. I don't pressure him, he'll do it when he's ready. In the meantime I just enjoy being out with him seeing the big smiles on his face
