First time fishing Lake Pyramid. This fish was gently retrieved and kept in the water until my son took the picture. Barbless hook, but I can’t recall the pattern. Fishing 6 weight sinking line with a strike indicator. You have to be gentle with the big ones as you can cause nerve damage and they will not be able to swallow. This fish swam away with vigor.

Yes it is open to fishing. I did a Google search and the last report was on the 18 of November from the Trout Creek outfitters. We may fish lake Pyramid too. I caught a tanker there last year fishing for my first time. It was cold and windy, perfect conditions as it drives the fish closer to shore.

Not a fisherman in sight. I will try the stream outflow area when the fishing predictions improve as it looks like a good place to try my luck. I’m surf fishing using Bill Varney’s technique.

Thank you for all the great advice and photos Papa D! I tried the pier last Thursday and I knew the fishing would be lousy, but I tried anyway. The first clue was nobody fishing. Second, the water was muddy. Having driving there from Los Osos, I had to give it a shot anyway. I fished multiple areas with fresh mussels and store bought shrimp, raw and unpeeled. I struck out but still better than doing yard work. Thanks again to all of those who shared their thoughts and beta.

Can anybody out there write about the winter fishing on the Cayucos pier? I’m mainly interested in catching perch.

Thank you Relliott59. I will be fishing closer to home until next steelhead season up in the Trinity River and into Oregon. I’ll try the Cherco River then. In central coast California, you can only fish between 101 and the ocean. All barbless and release. It all about the experience and joy of fishing.

Hi, I’m interested in fly fishing for Steelhead on the central California coastal rivers and streams and need help. I would like to fish the beach where the stream breaks out through the sand and into the ocean. Where are the legal waters and names please?
