Coons? Boy howdy guys. Yes, I used to go coon hunten. I feed the deer, coons, squrils, birds and so every day. My game camera is always full of pictures. The squrills and coons are the most active. Well, gotta go, my sister and bunch just showed up from Texas. My week will be full of more talk than I can muster.

Well, Dude, you have now made them pets, and likely even named them. You are not likely to eat your pets....Sorry. Otherwise, having them so close, less that 30 steps, you could harvest one or more with a bow, or crossbow. Makes excellent steaks and sausage...Just Sayin...RJS

Yea, you are right there my man. I could do that. I just gave my son-in-law my crossbow the other day. I bought some quail in the grocery store and am going to try it out. It cannot be a good as the quail I used to catch in Stonewall County Texas back in the 1960’s with slat traps. We always let a few go so we could have more later. Just like frogs. Never catch them all. It was fun catching bullfrogs at night. I mean catching, not gig-in them. Catching at night was more fun. Times have changed over the years. Kids today don’t have the same fun we had back in the fifty’s and sixty’s. I could go on and on but you guys know what I mean.

I have quit deer hunting. Not able to do the climbing and walking so much, so I just feed them every day. Corn, oats and apples. Get good pictures of two nice bucks in velvet now and two does with two small fawns. Several coons and lots of birds and squrilles too. I see at least one or two deer every day on the lane to my place. I stop the truck and watch.

I quit smoking three packs of camels a day 30 years ago. Two years ago the drs. removed one third of my left lung thinking I had cancer. I didn’t, it was just scar tissue from having pneumonia three times. That is my guess. I am now 77 years young. My dad made it to 85. Hope to make it there myself.

I still have my first bag phone and the only phone that was mounted in one of my trucks. I lost one cell phone down a 6” water well. The last one was lost about 6 months ago and I never got it back. But a lady in Louisiana ended up with my number and had trouble with obscene phone calls. I now do not have a cell phone and have enjoyed it very much. My wife bought a new I phone and loves it. I don’t want another one. It reminds me of when I was back in the 1950’s and 60’s. Peacefully quiet!

My dad never talked much about the time he spent during WWII. I do remember fishing and duck hunting with him there. You had to share your catch or hunt with the forest master. When deer hunting the man would place you at your hunting sight and help the deer come your way. Another time the guys were skiing from a hill. They took a couple of jeeps and put one on top and bottom of the hill. Put a tireless wheel on each with a road attached. That was their ski lift. I was little but enjoyed standing behind one of them when skiing Down the hill. Another time I ran away from home. We lived in an old house instead of on the base. They had a housekeeper and a Gardner. Froweville and Heair Cop. I know that is not the correct spelling but it will do. Anyway, I ran away and finally was caught by the MP’s. I had caught a ride with an old German man who was driving an old wagon with a honey tank on it. They collected to wast from the houses and used if for fertilizer. Dad was an aerial photographer and Kodak K4 camera repairman. He taught that and did map work. He would show me photos and describe the bomb runs to me. Some things he said were not to be shown or talked about. He told me that the guys were issued two flack suits. They wore one and sat on one. One day they got a new commanding officer and he only let them have one. The next flight up the officer got shot in the butt. They kicked him out over some place and he survived. Later he was back on base and thanked them by issuing them two flack suits. I guess you have heard enough from me for now. So let’s hear from someone else.

Hey Spirit, the guys have good ideas on your work. I use a file like a horse shoe file. Clamp your work tightly and go to work. Slide the file lightly at an angle and take it up off the work. Don’t rake it backward on the work. You may need to use the file card every now and then while working. There is a sanding disk for aluminum you can use to clean up the edge of the work piece. It takes time to do something right and to look nice. Am 77 years young and have learned over the years that taking my time pays off better than having to do it over again. Just my way of doing things. Keep up the good work and you will be pleased with what you do and others won’t make snide remarks about it. Hope this helps.

I’d enjoy that too. Don’t hunt any more . Always liked seeing nature.

I used to deer hunt every year but now I just hunt with my camera. Fell out of my deer stand one evening. That almost did me in. At 77 I try to keep on the ground. My wife does not like hunting and the last buck I shot I got her to help dress it out. Se said never again, to much work. OK. So I just fish. She that is just fine except you have to do some of the cleaning of those catfish too. Cannot seem to get ahead on those women. The first wife I had would not even clean or cook my frogs, squirrels, deer or fish. Now my daughters by her will just dig in and get to work on them. Strange, ain’t it?

That's too bad, Sitn.

BadBobby will recognize the opening post as the same OPP thread he used to playfully demean me and another Marine friend of both ours...PoppaGringo. I simply changed the names and roles of the characters & whatever was necessary to poke back at my dear friend, BB. Like many other Veterans, we share a spirited but friendly inter-service rivalry.

Spirit27 is a distinguished career military Veteran here on the FS forum, and I brought him into the fray to make him feel 'included' in that rivalry. I felt certain he would understand.

I gotcha, man. I never served in the Military. Failed the fiscal exam. My dad retired as a Major in the USAF. He served in Germany as an aerial photographer and mapmaker.

We have several of them here every year. Builds their nests in everything. Cans, buckets and all sorts of places on shelves, etc. Fun to watch catching insects and building their nests. Fast little buggers.

A small town named Aspermont in Texas has their school underground. No problem with tornadoes or storms there. I worked on a ranch there back in the 60’s an 70’s. Most folks had their storm shelters near their homes.

I buy a 50lb sack of corn every week and a 50 lb sack of oats every two weeks and feed the deer, squirrels, coons and birds in a feeder I made. I also have one or two deer mineral blocks for them also. Game camera set up. It is nice to see the 2 bucks and 3 to 4 does eat. Some at night and some during the daytime. Oh yes, the crows come in also. The squirrels are fun to watch climbing and jumping around. Used to have some flying squirrels here but they seem to be gone now. They were really nice to watch.

I have understood over the years that some folks from other countries view things different that we do. You have to watch what you say because you can offend them. Their words can mean something different than what ours do. I had a friend that was Japanese. Talking to her was hard because What I said might be offense to her. Her husband, a fellow I grew up with, said something to her one day. She calmed up and wouldn’t talk to him for a long time. After a while he got her to tell him what was wrong. It was nothing we were used to but to her it was bad.
