I have now since bought a Curado DC and i probably will never buy a different reel outside of the SLX or Curado DC unless i need a specialized reel for something. The Curado i would say casts a bit better. For the price on the other hand i would probably stick with the SLX DC unless you are willing to spend the extra $100 or so for a little smoother casting and better feel and look.

Update for anyone who stumbles on this post. I have since bought 2 SLX DC reels and they are great reels. Super easy to dial in the setting as well. I have done some research on the Curado DC reels and came to the conclusion that the only difference between those and the SLX reels is the body size of the reel and the body is made out of a more durable material.

Put some gloves on and wrap some line around your hands and give it a tug and if it stays intact you should be all good!If its 40lb+ line tie it off to something sturdy and see how easy it breaks.

As you can probably already tell a lot of the reels components are similar if not identical in size and shape but go back onto the reel at different spots. I made the mistake of taking about my abu garcia orra inshore and didnt set all the components out in the order i took them off. Dont be like me lol.

I was thinking the same thing but all i could find on the internet was chicken livers chicken breast and hot dogs so i figured i would go with the stankiest one. Theres really bot any places to get bait where i am so it looks like im stuck with livers. Gonna dunk them in some dip and glow garlic dye and hope for the best.

Going fishing for cats for the first time and looking for any secret baits yall might have. Im going to try chicken livers but i was also curious on whether actual raw chicken livers work best or the packaged stuff made for bait.

Im looking into trying out a DC reel for the first time. Does anyone have any advice on whether its worth it to pay the $250 for the Curado or the $190 for the SLX or any other DC reels if yall have a recommendation. Im currently using a cheap black max that works alright but im looking for something new and im a firm believer in you get what you pay for but i know in some cases the big brand name can be a big factor in the price.

Castaic Lake just north of Santa Clarita is a historically good lake. Also if you have a smartphone you can get an app called fishbrain and you can look up lakes on a map and it will show you catch locations , time, weather conditions, baits, and some other good stuff as well.

Does anyone use treble hooks on their dropper loop set up vs using shrimp flies or just a normal hook? I generally use a big 10oz diamond jig with one treble but would like to get some more space between my hook and the bottom to avoid losing $10 jigs. My main concerns with using the flies or normal hooks is possibly losing a 30 inch lingcod on a tiny little shrimp fly hook. Any advice would be appreciated.
