It is a saltwater boat rod! I had one of these when I was 8 years old. Given to me by my grandfather! It had a Pen 509 jig master real. Today that rod would be a light tackle salt water rod ! I used mine for fishing live bait for strippers in the San Francisco Bay ! It’s a great rod for that but I will tell you this keep for a remberance of your friend and hang it up I broke mine while fishing for light tackle rock fish the rod is over 80 years old. You have a collector’s piece!!! Don’t fish with it if you brake it you’ll never forgive yourself like me !
