My wife and I have heard great things about this park. However I have heard little about the fishing. Any information would be great. Thanks

I’m not sure what the park has to offer for fishing. I fished the hocking river once about 20 years ago when a friend was in college there in Athens. We caught a lot of fish in a variety of species. Some of the state lakes in that area get stocked regularly with trout in the spring.

This was my fourth annual trip to this high mountain lake and truly a gem. Last year I went with my middle daughter, this year with my oldest daughter. Fishing is definitely secondary, spending time with loved ones is what counts. The hike is 4 miles one way, two miles up to the top at 9,000 ft then two miles down into the lake basin.
This lake holds some of the best trout I have seen in a high mountain lake. I started throwing a good size hopper pattern like usual and wasn’t getting much action. Switched to something smaller and started get hookups. Then decided to hike to the other end of the lake where I had never fished before. That was worth it because I tied into a couple of truly trophy size cutthroats, at least for me, especially for such a high altitude lake. About 8 fish total, definitely quality over quantity on this trip.
Wildlife seen included a bald eagle cruising around the lake, a black bear on the trail on the way. Flushed about a dozen blue grouse on the way back down too.
Such a great time with my daughter!

Great day to be outside enjoying life and sharing it with your daughter. High mountain cutthroats are a treat. I’ve had good results with purple woolly buggers for cutthroat.

Hey folks, new to fishing stage. I have always fished for catfish on the Muskingum River, now that the wife and I have more time we would like to fish some of the lakes in Ohio.

Looking for any advice or suggestions on where and how to fish on the lakes.

The wife likes pan fish for the action, and I'm partial to cats.

We do have a pontoon with a 15 hp motor.

Thanks in advance

I’ve read that Pymatuning lake is good fishing lake. Popular with walleye, smallmouth bass, and panfish. I’ve never fished it myself though. It’s on the northeast border of Ohio and Pennsylvania.
Good luck 👍

Tell us your favorite or not so favorite nickname or nicknames please. Pictures are very welcome.

I always liked my dad’s nickname “Eagle”. Everyone knows him as that. He’s had it since he was a kid and is almost 72.
So sometimes I’ve been called Eaglet from older people. In high school I got Buzzard by some, sometimes I still do.

My grandpa retired from Holmes Wayne Coop. He influenced me the most about fishing and hunting. I spent a lot of time with him fishing Lake Erie. He had a boat and camper he kept there up at Oak Harbor.

I’m not very technology savvy. Haven’t figured out how to do pics. I gave up fairly easily though when I tried. Hope to help my girlfriend hooked up with a nice size rainbow. She hasn’t caught one yet. Enjoy your holiday weekend in S.E Ohio Sir🎣

Good morning

Taking my son to Atwood lake for first time tomorrow for some fishing. Rented a pontoon there

Can anyone provide some tips or locations to try ? We don’t get to go out too often so really trying to put the boy on some fish regardless of the species.

Thank you all

I have never fished there myself. I’ve been told and read that it is a good saugeye lake. One guy told me that he catches them there by threading a half night crawler on a Aberdeen hook and slow trolling it. I don’t know about where on the lake. Good luck
