They weren't picky. Steamboat and Miner Sloughs. Kayak launch would be Hogback on Steamboat, Arrowhead on Miner. Both West of Courtland. If you choose Hogback, turn right. Ticket booth to the ferry was always good. Right bank. Reel in to pass the ferry, you'll hook that sunken cable for sure.

If you can manage the riprap bank, launch right by the ticket booth. Cut a quarter mile off your paddle. Maybe a mile, ticket booth to ferry. Back and forth, East bank (RH) should work. J-5 rebel, your favorite trailer on the back hook. Luck.

I was up near where the other 'Gonna chase the stripers' Stagers were fishing on the Sacramento River near Rio Vista.

Unfortunately, my partner bailed at the last minute and by the time I got my kayak launched I missed the tidal pocket for my planned drift.

Not one to give up, I tried a little trolling (live minnows 40" behind a dodger at approx 12' below the surface) but struck out.

I know how to successfully drift for stripers and troll for trout, salmon, tuna and halibut but will be the first to admit I know very little about trolling for stripers.

My assumption is that stripers tend to stay at the same depth in the water column independent of the bottom depth (ie, like salmon or trout).

The question I have is whether or not my assumption is correct.
Should I troll the same depth in the water column (eg, 12' below the surface) or troll 3' off the bottom (like you would for halibut)?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated (especially from the 'Gonna chase the stripers' crew)

Thanksgiving is done, black Friday's a wrap,
I'm happy to not be out shopping for crap.
At this phase of life, we don't need more stuff,
A lifetime collection is surely enough.

I do hope the basses enjoy the vacation,
No boats on the water for prop-made aeration.
A cold front tomorrow behind rain today,
Might stimulate catchin, I might just go play.

Happy Thanksgiving Stage family, a coupla days late. Y'all help make my new life on the lake where I grew up more enjoyable. Hugs n handshakes all around.

Dag'gonit! How'd septics get into this? Been managing six really big ones for a long time. Let's talk fishing pomes.

Here in Cali CB, I half jokingly tell others to hire an attorney to help you understand F&G regulations.

Hi Steve, I'm making the effort to learn paperless. The wildlife areas, hunting grounds, are not updated. The MPA'S (marine protected areas) are not updated. If, when, I'll find them. Shouldn't be this much work. Should be posted at every entrance everywhere. If not posted, general rules apply. Rangers, bosses, please simplify this. CADFG please simplify this.

Another stage vis'tor is checkin my spellin,
I don't take offense bout my fancy pome tellin,
Sure, it makes more sense to use the word poem,
But it just makes it harder to write here at hoem.

So I'll stick with my habit of spellin stuff wrong,
I should get my banjo and write a pome song.
And maybe I'll start up some fun pome classes,
But no, I don't think so, I'd rather catch basses.

Like this'n here, cotched today about 15 minutes before the wind whooped about from the warm south to the frosty north. Ain't fall transition fun? 🤪
And yes, cotched is a word. It's past tense of cotch. You know, like cotchin basses.
Can y'all tell I'm wore out? Us old guys ought not be diggin up hard rocky ground lookin for septic tanks.

Good job TRB. Always enjoyed some picnic banjo. My uncle Dommie played while we sat around the patio a long time ago.

I have not tried this year. Been pretty much laid up.

I hope you are healing well. I download what I can for road trips. Sonoma coast is not famous for cell service. Current state and federal wildlife areas, regs is what I'm looking for. Might be under a different title now. I'll find it. Be well Charly.

Hi Kerry, the set I chose was three sets of 14 sizes. 17mm down. $12.00. Vertical rod, scotch tape under, across the eye. Set the ceramic to fit nice. Two dots of super glue to set it. When satisfied, ring the groove around with superglue.

Great pics Jar! Solo firepit? We are also pruning and nursing a winter garden. Chard is doing great! Carrots, beets, broccoli, Brussel sprouts are slow starting. Peas don't make it out of the yard.We eat them off the vine! Staggered the spinach, hope to have it all winter. Happy holidays to all of you!

I posted back always about an assortment of ceramic inserts available online. Repairs appear to be perfect. My old rods are good as new.

I've got it to do, though after work I look at my chores and sit down to think them through. That's why I'm armchair sport.

Ya, this last time I lost some nets I saw a couple boats that may have run them over so that's a definite possibility.
How can I prevent either seals from dragging them away (there were several seals we saw in the area), or boats from running them over? Your pool noodle idea is good but not 100% foolproof in my opinion. Thank you for your input. Very much appreciated.

Sorry to say folks also steal nets and catch. Stay close, watch your gear.

[quote=John Favorite]Help! Help! I need as many tips as possible about successful lobster fishing. So far it's been a disaster. I'll start by saying that I have lost 4 out of 6 hoop nets in only 2 weeks. I set the nets in mostly shallow water and when I return in 30 minutes, one or two nets will have disappeared! Where in the hell do they go??? Thank you for your suggestions.[/quote
Jarhead has it right. Add plenty of weight also. No stopping them seals though. Best move to another spot.
