Thanks, Kandydisbar! I used to build houses for the northeners in Seaside Heights, LBI, etc, in another life :-)
Yes on trolling- 2.5 to3 mph. You're talking about the mouth of the Carrotoman, I guess? I finally got the boat down- Here is the lure I used to catch him, although I now hear they are biting on chartreuse shad. Good luck! (leader reel added for scale)
Sorry Lucecreekcrabber- I meant to go out and drop the boat and get a pic of the lure, but no time. It was on a 4" lifelike rubber shad swimmer
WOW. I grew up on the Delaware across from Philly, moved to Barnegat, then to Virginia many years ago. I never saw a Blue that big! What are youall feeding them :-)
Nice fish nj219. Where was that?
Yes, Grizzly. The boat is a 23 Parker. The bay is 7 miles downstream
Yes sir. I'm on Carter Creek
Caught a 22 incher just upstream from the Norris Bridge at Whitestone, VA
Yup- The funny papers taught me how to read, and better, how to think (Pogo, Lil Abner, etc)... Hey Plumbob, we used to charter the "Plumb Crazy" out of Deale, MD for Striper. The Cap't's handle was Plumbob. I looked up New Windsor and found it in Carroll County, (Around the corner from Frizellburg) so I am guessing he was a different "Plumbob"?
Gatertoo- That was the best and most concise fishing report I have seen in a long, long time. Thanks for that! See youout there
Hello Reetz. Welcome to Weems. I am on Carters Creek off Weems Road. I'm somewhat new to the area, so I've not tried to explore Taylor's Creek yet. The Rappahannock can get dicey sometimes. I would get some time on it before you commit to a boat. I can help. Contact me when you get in town. I have a 23' Parker. Maybe you can bring me some luck with the fishies. :-)
Welcome, Rob. We prowl just north of you near the Rappahannock. We need to keep each other informed
I went out on the Rappahannock from Carter Creek to Windmill point, and only marked a small school of fish near the mouth. When I turned around, they were gone. Very lonely out there. Anybody else fish that section?
Well, I pulled the Parker today without boating any striper- This is my first year fishing the Rappahannock. I am perplexed. I boated a few Spanish Mackerel earlier, a few blues, but the Rock seem to ignore my chartreuse and white shad baits, my spoons, my $22 diving baits. I mark them, but no bites. I caught a keeper off my dock a few weeks back as consolation. As any fisherman says, "I'll be back". Next year is around the corner. Merry Christmas everyone!
Hi Firefly. I fished from just above buoy 8 across from Urbana down to the bridge last Saturday..Was marking some fish but didn’t have any luck. My local advisor said I should have worked between buoy 8 and 10, farther upstream. He also advised to slow the troll to 2 mph. Good luck! I’m in Faifax until next week or I would be calling you!
Welcome, Sgroi. I was out at buoy 8, opposite Urbanna VA yesterday. I marked quite a few, didn't hook any. I was by myself with only two lines out, and only for an hour or so. The rockfish are slowly moving out toward the bay. The water temp was hovering between 58 and 59.
